By the beginning of 2007, it was obvious which direction we were heading. Before we made anything official, however, it was time to meet his parents. The CPA’s parents are both in their 80s and though they are independant and do very well, they don’t travel much (can’t say I blame them there). So we made plans to visit them in St. George, UT where they spend their winters.
We landed in Salt Lake City and spent the first few days in the area visiting my soon-to-be fiance’s hometown of Tooele, UT. While it’s not necessarily my dream spot (the wide open spaces kind-of freak me out a bit), Tooele is a nice enough town. Apparently it’s grown a lot and now offers all of the modern conveniences like Walmart and various fast food establishments.

It was pretty cool to visit the CPA’s old haunts - his elementary school, his dad’s old furniture store, and of course the neighborhood where he romped and played as a child. It’s amazing to think of him as a little one, running around with his brothers, getting in trouble for the things boys get in trouble for doing. I don’t know if you’ve noticed yet, but the CPA’s really tall (5 foot 20, as he likes to say) and had I not seen pictures of him as a little one, I would never have believed it.
While we were in the area, since it was Utah of course, we walked around the foothills of the mountains. What an amazing view from up there! You really get a sense of the vastness of the place and how small we are in comparison.

No visit to UT would be complete without a quick stop at my brother’s house. They also lived in UT – not in Tooele but close by. So I was able to visit his new home and play with the little munchkins. Oh how I miss those guys!

All-in-all it was a great trip down memory lane for the CPA and a nice introduction into his world for me. After a few days of visits with his brothers, nephews and nieces, it was time to make the four-hour drive south. I have to say that I was a bit nervous. But I soon learned that I shouldn’t have been.
