Meeting the Parents (Pt. 4)

If this seems like the longest story ever, it’s probably because it was one of the longest days ever.  Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time, but it was definitely a full day.  The drive which takes four hours by freeway, takes at least six or seven using backroads.  And we made numerous stops along the way.  In fact, one of the reasons for the drive was to go by Bryce Canyon, which I had never seen.

It was well worth the drive.

Pictures simply do not do it justice.  We were there as the sun was beginning its descent and the effect was breath-taking.   The late afternoon light made the canyon look as if it were on fire.

There are four different view points: Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point.  We tried several of them and were amazed at the way the light (or lack thereof) transformed the view.

And of course we took silly pictures because that’s what we do.

Isn’t he handsome, that CPA of mine?

And of course one or two of me, just to show I was actually there.

I’d say that the hours of driving, fending off wild horses, scraping off dried mud, and worrying about tumbleweeds was all worth it for this experience.  And an experience it was.  I highly recommend it.

Hello,
I am glad you took the time to see Bryce. It is truly a beautiful experience. Maybe next time, if you feel adventurous, you two can take a hike down into the canyon and see a different perspective.
Also, if you can, stay until after dark, then head back to the main highway. Stop out in the middle of nowhere, get out of the car, put your hand in front of your face and see if you can see it.
I tell you, around midnight, you can’t see anything but the stars.
Believe me, you can see all gazillion of them up there.
You have some great pictures and memories. Get out of DC more often. I wonder if you got to go through Zion Canyon? next time!
To a Happy & Joyous Lifelong Marriage,
God Bless,

thanks for the suggestion – I have been through Zion’s Canyon and loved it! And you’re right, it is so amazingly dark at night there – I’ve never seen anything like it. Tabitha
