Twilight – The Book

I have to sit down while I write this.  That’s how blown away I am by this book.  It’s funny to say that given that it was originally written for a young adult audience, but for some reason it really struck me.  When I started reading Friday night, I told myself that I would give it at least one chapter.  I couldn’t put it down!  By Saturday afternoon, I was finished.

I’m not usually one for scary things such as vampires, goblins or ghosts, so this book didn’t seem like my style but I was intrigued given its recent popularity in the press.  I will say that I love the Harry Potter stories, but those don’t seem to fit into the scary category.  For those of you who are like me and have no idea what all the fuss is about, I’ll give you a brief rundown:  girl moves to Washington State, girl falls in love with vampire, vampire falls in love with girl and tries not to kill her, girl tries to become friends with vampire’s family while being hunted by a bad vampire.  That’s the basic gist of the story.  Sounds weird, right?  What’s really at the heart of this book, though, is the love story between Bella and Edward, the teenage vampire.  She is an outsider, he is an outsider.  She falls for him, but doesn’t know why.  He can’t keep himself away from her even though it could kill her.  It’s your classic love story, with a twist.

As a reader, you want them to be able to be together, the whole time knowing it probably isn’t possible.  Twilight touches on the typical drama that is found in high school, yet the characters don’t seem like high school students which is why it probably why adults are able to relate.  The idea of there being such a thing as a “good vampire” is intriguing and the chase sequence in the story is exciting.

So if you want some good reading (we’re not talking War and Peace here) that is fun and tender and clean (it is written by a fellow Mormon, which is cool), then I highly recommend you pick up a copy.  Warning though, you will want to read through the remaining three books immediately, if not sooner!

7 times? That’s impressive! I just bought New Moon last night and am already half-way through. That’s the good thing about not being able to put it down – it gets read really quickly. The bad thing is that not much else gets done in the meantime!! :)

Boy am I right there with both of you!! I couldn’t stop reading any of the 4 and have now also read her book The Host (it’s awesome too and is a TOTALLY different subject matter).

Can not wait until the movie “Twilight” is released. We’re going to have quite a group going together. Wish you were here to go with us!! Enjoy reading the rest of the books – you’re going to love each one more than the last….you can almost not turn the pages quickly enough.

I have to say, as a 31 year old woman, I was (at first) kind of ashamed to admit how much I LOVED this series of books!!! But now, I have gotten two of my friends (also adults-one a GUY!) to read them, and they have each gotten 2 people to read them (even one more GUY!)!!!! I feel like these are books everyone can enjoy! I can’t wait for the movie!!

Hi Jackie – I totally understand! I was embarrassed to have anyone see me reading it when I first started! But I got so caught up in it that I soon decided I didn’t care! :) And it’s almost time for the movie – wahoo!
