The toast was complete so it was time to eat. The cake that is.
A funny thing about the cake – when it arrived, we didn’t think it was mine! Another wedding was taking place that evening so we just assumed the cake was theirs.
The cake was different enough from what I had ordered that I honestly didn’t recognize it. But after much debate, we finally went with this one. It was very pretty, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not exactly what we had ordered. You can’t tell in these pictures, but the ribbon looked peach which definitely did not fit the yellow and white theme I had going.

But that’s okay. It tasted amazing! I didn’t go with the fondant even though I loved the finished look of it. Instead, we went with traditional frosting. It still looked quite “finished” and smooth which was pleasing. There were three layers: yellow butter cake with strawberry filling, almond cake, and carrot cake with apples (my favorite). That alone made up for the wrong-colored ribbon.
Cutting the cake was a little tricky for me. Given my lack of cutlery prowess, I was a little nervous about doing it wrong. But there wasn’t much to it really. And I had someone there helping of course.

We had agreed beforehand that we absolutely would not do anything silly with the cake, like smooshing it into each other’s mouths. We weren’t having any of that.

It was hard enough concentrating on not being caught with my mouth hanging open or looking like a cow chewing its cud.

It’s really hard to eat when you have people taking pictures of you. You just do your best and try not to look like you’re shoveling it in (that can come later when no one’s looking).

More sparkling cidar. And no, it doesn’t go well with cake. We just held it for the picture.

Everyone was oohing and ahhing, but I really think they just wanted us to hurry so they could get a piece.
Delicious!!
