Well, $4.2 million to be exact. But after you reach the $4 million mark, who’s keeping track?
A couple of weeks ago when we went to the Parade of Homes, we had a chance to see how the other half lives. This colonial style home had the highest price tag of all the houses that we visited. From the outside it was beautiful, but it didn’t look like it fit into the “extraordinary” category. It was the inside that set it apart.
The floor-to-ceiling windows…

stone fireplaces…

and arched entryways were just a few of the details that made this home luxurious. Take a look at the molding on the ceiling and around the windows.

And the kitchen, let’s talk about the kitchen for just a moment. I know I’m not much of a cook, but I can appreciate beauty when I see it. This Tuscan style kitchen was warm, rich and inviting. The professional appliances just beg to be used and that backsplash – it’s amazing.

Here’s another shot just in case you want a slightly different view.

The kitchen is part of the breakfast nook, which is bigger than three of my typical nooks combined.

And the floor – I had to get a close up of it even if the picture doesn’t show all of the detail.

The pantry off of the kitchen contained a third (yes, I said third) dishwasher. You know, just in case the other two are full.

And what kitchen would be complete without a side kitchen leading to a separate butler kitchen?

(Love the little glass shelves with the plaster molding.)

The butler kitchen was just off of the dining room, naturally.

That just about completes the main floor. But before we move to the basement, I have to show you my favorite room. The room that, if I lived in a house like this, I would probably read, eat AND sleep in.
Here it is – the wood paneled library/office. Seriously, did you know that people actually had rooms like that in their homes? I thought they could be found only in libraries. Maybe I just don’t get out much.

So, moving on to the basement, we find the downstairs kitchen. It’s more of a bar really.

A few steps down and you find yourself in the main room separated by an open stone fireplace.

Once again we see the floor-to-ceiling windows. Can you believe they are part of the basement? Look at all the light they let in! Our basement has those little half windows that you usually find surrounded by storm drains. Not quite the same thing.
We stepped out onto the patio and found a porch in the process of being built (as you can see from the picture above, the floors have not yet been finished either – the house is a work in progress).

Back inside, we got ready to head to the top floor to see the bedrooms. There were more rooms in the basement such as a bedroom and a home theater, but you may not be as thrilled as I am with all of the details. (This post is probably way too long already. In fact, my hat’s off to you if you’ve stuck with me this far!)

If you have stuck with me, I’ll tell you that we’re almost through. But not before I show you the master bedroom. Just look at those ceilings and that chandelier – gorgeous! I especially love the French doors leading outside.

And finally, the room you’ve all been waiting for, my second favorite room in the whole house – the master bathroom. Oh how I would love spending quality time in here!

Another detail that made this home worth it’s significant price is the floor to ceiling closet doors. It’s not something I normally would point out, but I challenge you to take a look around your home and see if you notice how high the doors go. There’s a good foot or two before the ceiling, isn’t there? Not on these bad boys, we’re talking all the way to the top. I don’t know the reason for it but they sure look grand, don’t they? It makes the bedroom look more stately somehow, not to mention taller.

Well, that’s it. This completes your free tour of a $4.2 million dollar home. What did you think? Would it be worth the extra cash? (I looked up the listing online, the mortgage payment would be roughly $20,000 a month.) I figure – hey, if you’ve got it, why not?
But if you’re like the rest of us, I guess we’ll just have to settle for taking a Parade of Homes tour to see how the other half lives. I’m already counting the days until next year.
