The CPA’s Big Day

It was exactly ___ years ago today that my sweet husband, a.ka. the CPA, was born.  To commemorate this special occasion, we woke up early and went to vote at the local high school.  While my husband has been looking forward to his birthday, the fact that it fell on the same day as the election did not sit well with him.  Needless to say, the atmosphere in his office on the Hill may be tense or at least curious as the results come in, making today a bit of a roller coaster for them.  So we decided to go vote and have that done early.

To temporarily push aside all thoughts of voting and elections, we had a mini-celebration when we returned home.  This celebration included presents.  The CPA’s ‘real’ present (the item he requested, the one that he is in need of) will be given to him as soon as it arrives.  (I’m ordering him some shirts.  Shhh… don’t tell him.)  I know that’s not very romantic, but for the past couple of years we have given each other a list of items that we want for our big day.  While it’s easier that way, it does remove the element of surprise.  Knowing this and knowing that his shirts would be late, I decided to put together a little goody bag filled with small surprises.

First, we begin with the serious card.  If I give a funny card, I like to do a sweet one too.  The sweet one came first.

What a ham that CPA is – I told him to act surprised and this is what he gave me.  Not Oscar-worthy perhaps, but not too bad.

Next we moved on to the silly card.  It was full of well-wishes and, since it is a political birthday, it was also full of political humor.

(I know, it’s awful.  But it got a laugh so it was worth it.)

Present #2 was a book that seemed to confuse the CPA at first until I told him that it was sort-of a joke.  I got the book because the CPA has this addiction to the show game show Jeopardy.  We literally watch it every night.  So this book, full of “totally useless history,” seemed like the perfect way to increase his trivia knowledge.

This is not a look of surprise, rather, it is a yawn.  It was 7:00 in the morning after all and my sweetie was tired.

Givt #3 is a movie that will fit nicely into the CPA’s classic movie collection – a little Alfred Hitchcock never hurt anybody.

(Look how handsome my guy is – he doesn’t look a day over 40!!)

I feel the need to explain this next gift.  It is a back brush.  You see, the CPA some very delicate skin and due to the recent weather changes, his soft skin has started to become dry.  I figure that using this in the shower will help the situation.

Whether or not he actually uses it remains to be seen.

Now in this next picture, we see real surprise.  I had cleverly told him that the movie he wanted was sold out when I had actually bought it.  My “punishment” for lying to my husband is that I had to promise to sit through three hours of John Wayne and Kirk Douglas while my husband watches his new flick.

Remember that itchy skin we were talking about?  Because of it, gift #5 was by far the best gift of the day.  Now, when the CPA has a scratch that he can’t reach (and I’m not around) he can just pull out his 20″ extendable back scratcher and take care of the offending itch all by himself.  It sure beats asking a stranger to take care of it for him!

Too bad I didn’t think to remove the price tag before giving it to him.

And that was it.  Our mini-birthday celebration. We will probably do a birthday dinner too, once the election day is just a distant memory.

Just one final thought: Happy Birthday Sweetie!

So cute! You are a fabulous wife. All of those gifts were so thoughtful. I’m pretty sure me sleeping in your living room last was the perfect ending to his birthday…

The political card is nicer than the photo of the political shirt I sent him! :)
