If you’ve read this blog at all in the past couple of months, then you know that my sister’s wedding was this past weekend. You also know how much I was looking forward to it. What you probably don’t know, is how much work was involved. I actually did not know myself until a few days ago.
You see, when I had my wedding, our family took care of almost everything. My mother followed-up with the caterers, my sister made and sent out the invitations, and my aunt and cousin took care of the rehearsal dinner. I did most of the up-front work as far as finding the location and the dress, making lists and handing out assignments, and working with the vendors, but the family took care of all of the final arrangements during the week before the wedding. So I was pretty oblivious to what the last week before a wedding entails.
Until it was my sister’s turn. I had no idea how much coordination it took to buy candles, make food, and set up the reception area. And I had to be at work through most of it so I wasn’t even able to physically help with that much! All I can say is that my family has several super heroes – I don’t even want to think how we’d manage these things without our mom, aunt, and cousin!
My big job on Friday was to make sure the bride was happy. After I left work early, we met up at the MAC section of Nordstroms for a quick make-up test.

Unfortunately, as was normal for this week, we ran out of time and weren’t able to get the full makeover.

So we settled for a few tips and suggestions, made our purchases, and headed over to the salon for our pedicures and manicures.

My sister and I rarely get our nails done. In fact, this was her first time getting a pedicure. She seemed to enjoy it and it was a nice opportunity for her to relax and not have to rush around.

We were joined by our sister-in-law, our mother, and my sister’s good friend who was visiting from out-of-town.

An hour later we were done. There was no time to waste, though, as we had to get ready for the rehearsal dinner.

Around six thirty, we reconvened at my cousin’s house for the big dinner where we had yummy food and good conversation.

This was the true test – the place where both sides of the family would converge and see how we got along.

It wasn’t really a test of course, but I’m happy to say that we did in fact get along very well as the groom’s family is delightful. Speaking of the groom, here he is with two of his sisters…

And the groom’s mother was just the sweetest thing!

While we were all together, we took a few family shots. Here are the siblings with our dad and stepmom…

And again with our mom and stepdad.

The best part is that my sister seemed to enjoy herself

and so did I.

We talked and laughed and ate for a good two hours before it was time to call it a night.
Upon returning home, we waited for the bride to pack her honeymoon bags and go over any last minute details. We visited for a while and finally, around 11:00, my tired sister came in. She was worn out from the long day but was feeling good about Saturday. A few last minute decisions were made and then it was time to get some sleep – tomorrow was going to be a big day!
