We left the happy couple and headed home to quickly feed Oscar and grab some last minute items. We were on our way to the reception site when I received a phone call from my aunt asking how far away we were. Just a few miles, I replied, knowing that that could mean 15 minutes in DC time. She was a little worried as the only people there to set up were the caterers and not the extra help that we had requested.
Pulling into the parking lot, I noticed my sister and her groom and the rest of the family arriving at the same time. Thankfully, as we entered the building, we saw that the caterers had worked their magic and the helpers had shown up sometime between the phone call and our arrival so everything was under control. This was good as it allowed me to focus on more important things like the bride’s makeup. It was time for a touchup before she greeted her guests.
As we were finishing, another aunt came in with her Iphone and took a picture of the process for posterity’s sake.

By the time we were finished and the bride was ready, guests had begun to arrive. Everyone had done their jobs and the place looked amazing. Pink and gray were my sister’s colors, inspired by the gray roll of paper she had found in my grandmother’s house earlier this year. This paper was used on all of the tables, the lining of the envelopes for the invitations, and the wrapping on the guests’ favors.

Bouquets of pink flowers sat on every table

as did pink tapered candles.

Guests dined on meatballs, pasta, cheeses, and potatoes, among other things.

Instead of a cake, the bride had chosen to have individual cupcakes and cookies which were elegantly arranged on a serving table.

There were pink swirl cupcakes and little cakes with the initials T & D for the bride and groom.

Music was provided by a pianist and solo numbers were sung by a friend of the bride and by the groom’s sister (who has training as an opera singer).
The bride and groom did an excellent job of mingling with their 200 guests. They smiled at everyone and gave hugs and played with little kids.

There was some dancing involved

They even took a few pictures.

Of course we took a few pictures too because, well, we have a camera and do we need another reason?

(Isn’t my Mom beautiful?)

And finally, it was time for the bride and groom to leave. Sparklers were handed out and the guests were lined up on the outside stairs.

The bride and groom ran down the stairs to their waiting car…

only to discover that it was locked. So they tried it again…

They ran to the top and back down again, hoping the car would be unlocked and ready to go.
No such luck.

Finally, someone arrived with the keys and they were able to unlock the car.

Of course they had to clean out all the balloons first.

And finally, they were on their way. Their honeymoon had officially begun and they were off to enjoy a week in Cancun. I miss her already.
The end.
