Monday Musings – To Wii or Not To Wii, That Is the Question

It hit me this morning – Christmas Eve is exactly one month from today.  That means that I have approximately two and a half weeks of internet shopping (if I don’t want to pay overnight shipping, three and a half weeks if I do) and four Saturday trips to the mall.  That doesn’t leave a lot of time, especially considering I really hate going to the mall around the holidays.  I tried it this weekend and even though I arrived shortly after it opened, the parking lot was full and the place was a zoo.

I was thinking about this as I was getting ready this morning, which is why I told the CPA he had to get me his shopping list today.  Being the good CPA that he is, he had already figured out our Christmas budget so it’s just a matter of buying the gifts.  And I didn’t have to wait long for his list.  As he was leaving for work, he told me he wanted a Wii.  A Wii, I asked?  You mean one of those stand-in-line-for-five-hours- impossible to-get Wii’s?  I started to panic a little but then I thought that maybe that was last year.  Maybe this year they’re completely passé and the kids have moved on to the next hot item (we’re usually a little behind the times on these things).  Maybe it will be easy to find and I can just order it online.

Or maybe not… I looked at Best Buy and was excited to see it listed in their online store.  That is until I went to put it in my shopping cart only to discover that it is sold out on their website.  Hmm… perhaps this won’t be as easy as I thought.  I’ll have to do some more research today, but I’m going to remain hopeful.  And I’m excited – I realize the Wii is classified as a game, but it’s becoming so much more than that.  Apparently it can connect to the internet and it can be used to show your digital pictures through your tv.  I’ve also read articles about senior citizens using it to simulate activities such as bowling and tennis.

It can even be used for cathesthenetics and yoga!

So, I will look for a Wii - I will be diligent, I will perservere, and I will be clever.  (And I will shop online until the wee hours (get it – Wii??) of the morning if need be.)  Because if that’s what my CPA wants, then I’m going to do what I can to get it for him, even if it means standing in line for five hours.

What about you?  What’s on your Christmas list?  And if you have a Wii, are there any good games that you’d recommend?

I linked to you from Pioneer Woman. Nice site. I recently purchased a Wii from Amazon.com (like last week.) We were also able to get free two day shipping. We were playiing it by Wednesday night. You should check it out!

I just got really excited thinking about the Wii and assuming that if you get it for your husband it’s in essence like getting it for me. I can’t wait to come over and play it. Thanks sis!

Join the throngs of many a wife and parent trying to get the hearts desires of those we love!!! I too am on several quests and due to the nature of the season, I can’t disclose the quests I have in mind due to the receipents that shall stay nameless for the moment – but they know who they are. I am hoping that I will be able to secure the things they want. Good luck to everyone on these holiday quests – we shall conquer and be so fortunate to see the eyes light up and the smiles grow bigger and bigger when they unwrap the gift to see just what they wanted – there is absolutely nothing better and we all just hope our cameras are ready to get that perfect shot of their delight in getting that “special” gift from us!! Although, I do LOVE shopping the holidays and the after Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of my favorite days to do so. Good hunting!!!

Kind of off topic, check Costco if you have one near by! We were there about two weeks ago and they had hundreds of them stacked up, waiting to be purchased. :)

Christmas list…. just to be with family this year. Enjoy each other’s company ;)

I would love a Wii Fit. I have been so sedentary lately. And I don’t really have anything on my Christmas list this year.

Keep your eye out at Costco too. That is if you have a Costco membership….

To Wii! It’s a lot of fun. Boom Blox is a puzzle game, similar to Tetris that’s fun. Mario Kart Wii is also a great game. Wii Fit is not much of a workout, but I like the Yoga part of the game. It’s also a good way to monitor your weight. Happy Hunting!

We love our Wii. My husband waited all night for one for my son a couple of years ago. Luckily for you, they seem to be much more plentiful now. I see them at Wal-mart all the time. You might want to grab one soon though. Nintendo isn’t very good about trying to keep up with demand. Happy Thanksgiving!

We don’t own one… our life is still complete. :)

Hardcore WII gamer… love the dang thing and can’t stop the tennis madness. Wii Fit is fun as well, considering you can go skiing in your very own living room. We also greatly enjoy the arcade style games. I highly recommend eBay, you’ll find a gogillion of them on there and most go for under $300. You’ll be plesantly surprised and you won’t even have to go to that cruddy mall!

Ugh! For the longest of time, we tried getting a Wii for my boyfriend’s brother’s wedding gift, but they were sold out everywhere, and extremely overpriced online. We checked Walmart at all hours of the day, even once got up at 5am to meet their 6am delivery truck. It took eight months to find one, and by then the wedding was long past. Of course, when we did find a Wii, we bought two of the suckers – one for him, and one for ourselves, since we’d had so much trouble.

I recommend Smash Brothers Brawl and Mario Wii Kart. Wii boxing I hear is quite awesome.

Totally not worth it. If you want to play video games, get an XBox 360 or Playstation 3. The Wii is pretty expensive for something you will only ever use for Wii Sports or maybe Wii Fit.

Regardless, there is still a massive shortage this season. In the summer it would have been much easier to find one, but now they are in demand again for the holidays. Get it as soon as you can and make sure you look up what accessories you need and buy those too (you will definitely need more than one controller, Wii Remote AND Nunchuck (sold separately), component cables, etc, which will also be very hard to find, if you intend to use it right at Christmas)

We’ve played Guitar Hero until carpal tunnel set it. Kidding… but our joints are creaky. :)

You guys are amazing – all great suggestions! I’m happy to say that a little more research showed that there are some available if you know where to look (wink, wink). I will say (in case the CPA reads this) that it is not a guarantee that he will be getting one! He’ll just have to wait until Christmas to find out. :)

I got a wii last year. I just lucked out, my sister was at Target and they just happened to have 2, so she picked one up for me. They’re really fun!

Heads Carolina, Tails California - November 26, 2008 - 2:32 pm

We love our Wii! My husband and I frequently play Mario Kart, Mario Olympics (swimming will leave you breathless), and Wii Sports (usually tennis, but boxing is quite the workout). We have also just discovered that we can play the games with my brothers in another part of the state at the same time, on the same screen. AND, we found out that you can download old Nintendo games. So, lately, I have been rediscovering Super Mario Brothers 1, 2, and 3.
