I sure loved reading all 7 parts of your engagement story. I'm such a romantic... Plus, I used to live out in SF - and your photos made me homesick (in a good day.) :) Congratulations!

Kikibibi - love that story!! That's so cool that your husband did that. And what a small world - you stayed at the Drake too? Nice! It's in a great part of the city, isn't it? Central to most everything - we loved it!

We went to San Fran/Monterrey coast on our honeymoon. We also stayed at the Sir Francis Drake hotel (then later in Monterrey). Great story about the Drake - we arrived about 11pm, which was 2am to my tired body. My night-owl husband was wound up and excited, and wanted to see the city, even if just to sit downstairs in the hotel bar and catch a little ESPN and bite to eat. He was approached by a homeless man, asking for money, and the hotel staff tried to brush the grungy, unwashed man away. However my sweet husband said "I'm not just going to give you money, but if you're hungry I'll buy you a sandwich." So they two sat and enjoyed a meal and the college hoops updates. Toward the end of the meal, the waiter approached the homeless man, offering a paper bag full of a few more sandwiches for the road.

They parted ways, and we'll never know what became of the man. But he's forever a part of our honeymoon memories.

Hi HCTC - I'm sorry to say that I never had the sourdough bread while we were there. :( We did, however, visit Muir Woods and they were fantastic!! Oh - and thanks for letting me know about the silver guy, I always wondered about him!

Melody - at least you've been for a short visit but I agree, you'll definitely have to go back for a longer one because there's so much to see. The one thing I regret not doing is riding on a cable car!

I would love to visit San Francisco, just to visit San Francisco. I have spent a total of about 5 hours there. My mom and I had flown there to attend a conference in Stockton and on our last day had driven from Stockton north, just under the wine valleys, over to the coast. After a leisurely day of exploring outside the city, we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge about 3p to start our San Francisco adventure. We managed a quick ride on a cable car, a dinner of seafood chowder on Fisherman's Wharf, and some quick purchases at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company before we headed to the airport for our late night flight home. My brother lives just south of SFO and my sister-in-law works in the city. I need to get back there for a REAL visit! Thanks for your photos!

I've enjoyed reading your engagement story - how romantic! San Fran is also one of my very favorite cities. I hope you didn't leave without having some of the best sourdough bread in the world or without driving north to see Muir Woods and the Red Wood trees. FYI, the silver-painted man on the box is "waiting" to entertain you for money. He is usually "activated" by a few coins or dollar bill dropped in the silver urn or held out to him!
