A Small and Intimate Affair

It was the end of a busy year full of weddings and celebrations and we had one last party to throw.  In honor of the newly wedded couple – my sister and her husband – we had an open house reception a week and a half ago.  Since she had grown up in Georgia but had gotten married in DC, it was the perfect opportunity to see old friends who were not able to come to the out-of-town wedding.

The open house was held at the appropriately named Georgia House.

It was actually a really great place to have a party.  The house sat on the end of a large drive that offered a nearby tennis court,

a large pool complete with a water play ground,

and a slide for the kids.

The inside of the house was just as amazing.

The entrance opened up to a beautiful sitting room…

and great room, perfect for entertaining.

There were small tables for guests who wanted to sit and talk or play a quick game of chess.

There was even a large screen tv hidden behind a panel, complete with a surround sound system which was used to play background music during the party.

We had gotten there early to set up.  So we put out the candy bars wrapped with the bride and groom’s signature paper.

Then a few pictures of the happy couple were strategically placed around the tables,

as well as some beautiful flowers in the bride’s wedding color- pink.

In the kitchen we put together trays of finger foods and various snacks.

Since so much effort had been put into the wedding in November, the motto for this event was “easy.”  So we kept things simple with bowls of nuts…

platters of fruit…

and a plate full of cheese and crackers.

Oh – and of course the sweets, can’t forget those.

Finally, everything was ready for the guests to arrive.

They came one at a time with their hugs and well-wishes for the happy couple.  Some stayed just for a few minutes…

while others visited for a while.

People laughed, ate food, and had a good time.

And some of them (hey Mom) even posed for pictures.

The evening was deemed a success.  No matter how long guests stayed, they came with one purpose – to show support and love to this new couple.  Everyone had a lovely time and the small and intimate affair was the perfect way to end a year full of celebrations.

Great photos! What a nice place for a party. Looks like it would be a great place in the summer, too, with that pool and slide.

The Georgian is a great place for a party. And you’re totally right – it was a perfect end to a perfect wedding. We succeeded in it’s being intimate, beautiful, relaxing and joyous in celebrating the wedding of these two. Once again, the photos are amazing to highlight the facility and the folks. We sure enjoyed seeing those that were able to join us. It’s always so great to have some time with friends. Looked like the newly weds enjoyed themselves too. Thanks for affording us these photos to add to our “memory box”.

Hey Melody – it was the perfect setting. Too bad I couldn’t find something like that when I was looking to do my reception (at least I couldn’t find anything reasonably priced).

Alzo – thanks, it was such a great place. It’s too bad it was too cold for the pool because it would have been fun.

WofO – :) it WAS a grand affair!

Kristina – I know, I love the wood work and the attention to detail.

M – I agree, I think everyone enjoyed themselves and it turned out really nice.

T – this post gives me some ideas for the future. L and I did the “meet the parents” back East (Baltimore and upstate New York) but then got married in Texas with friends. We haven’t both been back East together since then. When we move back to the US, I want to host a wedding party, call it a 4 year anniversary party if we have to!

Melody – I’m so glad – I think you should totally do it! Where would you have it? It would be a great chance to get everyone one together at one time, wouldn’t it?

Spitzer Tales – thanks, I have to say it was all my mother. She’s the queen of those things!

Slide for the kids? I’d be on that in an instant. My childishness aside, It all looks beautiful, and congratulations to the happy couple.

Hey AnneMarie – the slide was so cool! It emptied into this separate little pool. And it was a big slide too!

I totally missed this gorgeous post… must’ve been out of the office that day!

Just have to say – your sister is absolutely beautiful! I bet she just lights up a room. Every picture she is in is just glowing with her stunning smile, clean look, and very evident joy. Please tell her I said so!

Kikibibi – I totally agree – she’s so beautiful, isn’t she? And you’re right, she has this personality that just lights up the room. I’ll definitely tell her you said so too, she’ll be so pleased.
