A Little Friday Gratitude – Turning it Over to You

I’m at a loss today.  It’s not that I’m not grateful for things, I am.  I think it has to do with the fact that I’ve been feeling sick all afternoon.  That, coupled with the fact that half of my face is numb after having dental work done four hours ago.  And on top of everything – I’m hungry.  I just tried to eat some marshmallows (hey – they’re soft and easily chewed) and I bit my lip.  Twice.  Do you know what it’s like to be hungry but not be able to eat?  Maybe that’s what I should write about – being able to eat.  I’m definitely grateful for that!

Nah, I think I’m going to do something a little different today.  It’s Friday, after all, time for the weekend and time to relax a bit.  Time to enjoy being off work and catch up on stuff.  I’ll be missing my husband, though, as he’s flying out to see his folks for his dad’s 86th birthday (Happy Birthday CPA’s Dad!!).  But even though the CPA is going to be gone, I’m still looking forward to the weekend and I am grateful it’s here.

Now I’m turning it over to you:  What are you grateful for today?  It could be anything, anything at all!  Here, let me help you get started.

Maybe you’re grateful for chocolate?  (Heidi – this one’s for you!)

Or maybe you’re grateful for the little one you’re carrying.  (Erin, Sarah, and Stephanie I thought of you…)

Maybe you’ve had some recent medical issues and are grateful for your health.  (I hope you’re feeling better Sandy!)

Or maybe you love taking pictures and are grateful for your camera.  (Briony, Melissa and Anneli you’re awesome photographers!)

And maybe you’ve recently married and are grateful for a new spouse (WofOdie – I borrowed one of your wedding pictures – thanks!)

It can be anything that you feel appreciative of, from your house to your job to your CD collection.  So again I’ll ask:

What are YOU grateful for today?

I’m just plain grateful its Friday and tomorrow I can sleep in. I’ve been sick for a week and I work with babies. That isn’t a great combination. (But I am not grateful for snow. I need a trip away from Maine to Hawaii or something before I go nuts).

Joanna - February 27, 2009 - 5:24 am

Before the gratitude list, I have one word for you … smooooooooooooooooothies! Toss some fruit, yogurt and milk in the blender and give it a whirl. It’s not satisfying if you want something to chew, but will help the hunger pains. It gets me and the kids through the afternoon.

I am grateful for my friends. In the past year, we’ve become more involved with our church and I’ve found a wonderful group of ladies that has really been a blessing to me. I’ve been craving friendship and the support system that comes from it ever since I left work to have our daughter (three years ago) and am now savoring it!

In a smaller, more immediate sense, I am grateful that I spent yesterday at the park with the kids. This involved me getting over my need to have everything from breakfast cleaned up immediately and sent my To Do List into the trash, but the kids had a blast! And hadn’t been to the park in ages because of various illnesses and the weather.

The Wife of Odie - February 27, 2009 - 5:41 am

Today I am grateful for lots of things. I’m grateful for my new marriage and my sweet husband. I’m grateful for modern medicine that is helping him get over the flu. And I’m grateful for your blog that gives me something to look forward to everyday. But most of all, I’m grateful for families and my knowledge of the gospel.

admin - February 27, 2009 - 5:44 am

Julie – poor thing, I hope you’re feeling better! And yes, I don’t blame you for wanting the snow gone. Maine is a beautiful state, but so cold!

Joanna – what a great idea, I didn’t even think of smoothies! And I like how you talked about friends, that’s a good one. And so sweet that you were able to spend time at the park with your kids. It really is the little things in life, isn’t it?

WifeofOdie – I’m glad he’s getting better. And I’m grateful for families too – especially one particular sister who’s so sweet and supportive (and who shall remain nameless, wink wink). ps – I’m grateful for the gospel too, don’t know where I’d be without it.

Jana - February 27, 2009 - 6:09 am

I’m grateful for the rain we’re going to get today. I love rainy Friday afternoons.

Jill - February 27, 2009 - 6:09 am

This is pretty mundane, but I’m grateful that it is Friday and I have the day off! :)

Kristy - February 27, 2009 - 6:12 am

I am thankful for my husband and beautiful girls, that I still have both of my parents, that while things are tenuous where my husband works that he still has a job, for God who has brought me through many difficult times, and of course, chocolate. It doesn’t really fit with the rest of the list does it? Now I’m going to have to fight the urge to eat it for breakfast!

Linda - February 27, 2009 - 6:14 am

I know just what you are going through. We went to Denver on Tuesday for dental appointments. I was just going to get my teeth cleaned, but ended up having a cavity under a crown, which my dentist, bless him, worked me in, so I wouldn’t have to travel the 250 miles one way, again, to get it fixed.

My mouth was numb, but I’m so thankful for the ‘gas’, for 4 hours.

One of the treats we get when we do make the trip is to eat at a restaurant that we don’t have in our little town. Can you classify KFC as a restaurant? Anyway, we stopped there for lunch, and I couldn’t even taste those yummy mashed ‘taters’ or anything.

I loved your pictures, especially the one with the wedding rings!

admin - February 27, 2009 - 6:47 am

Jana – good point, rainy Friday’s are awesome!

Jill – no such thing as a mundane Friday off. I think it’s safe to say that we’re all jealous of you!

Kristy – great list and I think that chocolate definitely fits. And yes, that picture of chocolate doesn’t help, does it?

Linda – gold old KFC… mmmm. Wow, you have to go 250 miles? I guess I can’t complain about my trek downtown anymore. :) Isn’t that a great picture of the wedding rings? It was taken by Melissa of Melissa Fullmer Photography and she is fantastic! http://happyfullmers.blogspot.com/

Margie - February 27, 2009 - 6:50 am

I am thankful (in no particular order) for my husband. My kids. My grandchildren. My job. My family. My salvation. And the slow, gentle rain that is falling. (Although, I wish I could have slept in this morning.)

Tabitha Blue - February 27, 2009 - 8:02 am

This was an awesome post, and I really hope you feel better soon!!!! That’s the worst feeling… being hungry and cannot eat!!

I’m certainly grateful for the little one I’m carrying and for my camera!!! Haha, and health and my husband too!!!! Beautifully written post, Tabitha!

And that ring shot is awesome.

I’m grateful that we both still have jobs!

Anneli - February 27, 2009 - 9:06 am

I am grateful that my professors are helping me as best they can so I can avoid flunking out and being sent home. :p I’m also grateful for this plug! :D I really hope you feel better soon. :(

Jenny - February 27, 2009 - 9:10 am

I’m grateful for safe and smooth travels. I hate driving when it snows, because of the road conditions, the traffic and the crazy drivers. My last two commutes were unexpectedly quick with the snow we got. And it’s always such a relief to get where you’re going safely!

Terra - February 27, 2009 - 9:15 am

I am carrying a blessing from God, and I’m very thankful for that. I’m also very thankful for the son that I have, that is he is the best gift I have ever received…. and I’m more amazed by him daily.

I’m also thankful it’s Friday…. Whew it’s been a LONG week. :)

Hope you start feeling better. :)

Mindee@ourfrontdoor - February 27, 2009 - 9:15 am

I am grateful for a “date” with my husband last night. We keep forgetting that we don’t have to get a babysitter anymore and so we don’t do that often enough.

admin - February 27, 2009 - 9:17 am

Margie – great list! Especially grandchildren, my parents tell me they’re the best.

Tabitha – ah yes, your little one. Congratulations again on your pregnancy – that’s such great news!

Kristina – amen to that!

Anneli – I had a professor who totally helped me through my econ class in grad school. Talk about a small miracle so I totally understand you appreciating that one!

Jenny – indeed. I’m always amazed when we arrive somewhere safely especially when there’s snow on the ground.

Terra – congrats to you too on your expected little one. So many pregnancies – I love it!

Mindee – yes, date nights are something for which to be grateful. As is not having to get a babysitter. :)

M to T&D&D&A&T - February 27, 2009 - 9:26 am

Friday gratitude – gives me a moment to stop the hectic pace here at work this morning and reflect: I’m eternally grateful for the gospel and my Savior, my wonderful husband (that was truly heaven sent), all my children – for all their special and unique beauty, character and qualities that I love and am proud of, our jobs, good health (although I too have had a whole week of not being able to eat due to oral surgery Monday and still not eating anything but “soft” things on one side only – still have a totally numb lower lip to boot), the rain that is promised this weekend (we need it due to the drought!!) and time off this weekend to be with hubby – just love that guy!!! and memories ( they mean so much when you have time between things to recall special moments and events)…and chocolate (yes it’s one of my favorites)

Ali - February 27, 2009 - 9:45 am

I’m grateful for interesting people on the internet to read and get to know such as you!

And today I posted that I’m very grateful to be constantly surrounded by family and friends. Such a blessing.

Now to go feed the two little rug-rats…
Have a good weekend!

Briony - February 27, 2009 - 10:03 am

Erica - February 27, 2009 - 10:59 am

I’m grateful that my parents are coming for the weekend to help us finish up our never-ending kitchen renovation! Hope you feel better soon – sorry you’re under the weather, and half-numb today :(

admin - February 27, 2009 - 11:21 am

M to TTDA – sounds like you have a lot to be grateful for. :)

ali – awww… right back at ya! And I agree – family and friends are a special blessing.

Briony – speaking of cameras, which one do you use? Have fun up north!

Erica – ahhh… calling in the troops. parents are great for helping out with stuff like that, aren’t they?

Melody C. - February 27, 2009 - 11:23 am

Ok, you’ve got me choking up a bit – I’m grateful for so much. In the past month I’ve visted my parents and sister in New York and have been reminded how much family means to me, especially as we are spread out around the world.

I’m especially grateful for the wonderful man who is my husband. He is very supportive of my degree in progress, my future career, and recently my diet (which is working for both of us)!

But tonight I’m grateful for our new president and his honest support of the U.S. military. I believe he is more trustworthy than our last president and I like what he outlined in his address at Camp Lejune this afternoon. I believe in a strong military but it should not stand alone – it should work hand in hand with a strong diplomatic agenda. And where peaceful means can win, that’s the best result of all.

the domestic fringe - February 27, 2009 - 11:31 am

I’m grateful for my kid’s hugs and the fact that God promises to supply our every need.

Stephanie - February 27, 2009 - 2:57 pm

Eeeee, I am most grateful for this little kicker I have growing my womb! I’m grateful for my amazing hussssband, and all of the love that I receive, give, and witness every day.

I hope you feel better soon!

And in response, our midwife told us we can actually take the baby on bikes with us in a carrier whenever he or she can hold his or her head up! I’m not sure if we will, but it’s something to consider.

Alzo - February 27, 2009 - 8:18 pm

It’s been kind of a down day (at least for a Friday), but reading this made me realize that when I stop and think about all the things that are right in my life, I have no reason to feel anything but gratitude and joy. So, I am grateful for this reminder to be grateful.

Robert - February 27, 2009 - 9:13 pm

I’m grateful to not only be accepted to one of my top choices of doctoral program, but to be desired greatly by them. I’m also grateful to have the wonderful problem of turning down at least two other schools, both of which were among my early favorites as well. I might even get to turn down the best school (in terms of rank) left on my list, though they are being quiet so far. I’m feeling very blessed.

sandy - February 28, 2009 - 12:39 am

I am feeling better and I am grateful for that. It’s no fun to be sick, but I know there are many who have it so much worse than I do. Thank you for saying that Tabitha, that was very precious of you. I’m sorry you haven’t felt well today. Have you been able to eat tonight? As always I am grateful for family, friends, but most of all of Savior. I am grateful for you and the things that you share with us each day. I know it puts a smile on many faces!! Have a good weekend. Maybe you can go out with the girlfriends while CPA is away!

admin - February 28, 2009 - 5:50 am

Melody – so beautifully written! And congrats on the diet working and on the pursuit of your degree!

Domestic Fringe – so sweet!

Alzo – I’m sorry you’ve had a hard day. But good for you for trying to be positive about it.

Robert – congrats to you, that’s got to feel great!

Sandy – thank you, as always you know just what to say. :) And I’m glad you’re feeling better!

Kelly - February 28, 2009 - 8:02 am

My husband, kids, camera, good health, new laptop, etc, etc.

Robynn's Ravings - February 28, 2009 - 11:58 am

I like to stay in a grateful place as much as possible because I don’t feel the world, or God, owes us ANYthing – so it’s ALL a bonus to me!

Recently I’m grateful for:

Wonderful news in my daughter’s life, a helpful son who is learning new skills, success on my blog, terrific new blogging friends, being able to make the mortgage payment in these tough economic times, days when I feel good, the healthy baby and mama I was able to attend yesterday. Thanks for making us write it down, Tabitha! :)

John von Cannon - February 28, 2009 - 5:16 pm

I’m thankful for my great looks, great personality, and great man cave!!!! Actually, I’m thankful for a great family, a dearest companion/wife, and yes, our little Yorkie–who brings us joy and makes us laugh! And I’m also thankful for yesterday and today, and the opportunities of tomorrow!

Heidi - March 1, 2009 - 1:17 pm

I’m grateful for the linkage! Thanks, Tabitha! Once again you made me drool.

I’m grateful for my pug, Cubbie, whose folds are finally healing from some sort of dog eczema.

I’m grateful for Coach Potato Joe, who biked 17 miles with me on Wednesday, 10 miles on Thursday, 9 miles on Friday, 10 miles on Saturday and 13 miles today.

I’m grateful that the OJ hasn’t expired, as I’m drinking a glass right now.

I’m grateful for my neighbors, who have on occasion brought pie to my door.

I’m grateful for my JOB. I’m grateful I can do it from home. In a robe.

And of course I’m grateful for the obvious things: parents, sisters, grandparents, my Canadian pen pal who writes me the most beautiful letters, and my old exchange student Yuuki in Japan, whose going to be a bridesmaid at my wedding.

I’m grateful for Henry doing my taxes because I didn’t know you could claim “office decorations.”

I’m grateful for the hot shower I’m about to step into … at 3:16 p.m.

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com - March 1, 2009 - 5:05 pm

After we got back from a trip to the dog beach, my husband spent the afternoon helping my dad move mulch. I just saw him walking up the drive, wheelbarrow in front, with the neighbor’s dog trailing behind. The dog loves my husband because he always stops on the road to pet him and give him a treat.

I’m grateful to have such a man in my life. And grateful that he’ll be the father of my child.

And also a little grateful for cranberry juice, which has turned out to be a magical concoction that helps get rid of that nasty bladder infection thing.

Madison - March 1, 2009 - 10:26 pm

I’m grateful for my health because I’ve had a lot of health related issues these past few years. I’m also grateful for my mom-she’s the best!

Melissa - March 3, 2009 - 1:42 pm

Thanks so much for the shout out to our photos…that was so nice of you! Yes, I am thankful for our camera, mostly because it makes catching beautiful photos of our little one so easy. I’m soooo grateful for my other half, Jon, who I know was really meant for me, no matter how much I also know soulmates are fiction. I’m so grateful for our little man that blesses us with a thousand more reasons to smile every day, for our families, for the gospel, for sunlight, for bedtime (I LOVE sleeping) and for ice cream. Life wouldn’t be complete without ice cream.

erin - March 4, 2009 - 5:32 pm

I guess I’m late to the game because I’ve been so busy lately, thanks for the mention! You are right about what I am thankful for. :) And that this gal has been by all accounts an easy pregnancy, at least physically.

I am thankful for so much more than that, of course, but that kiddo in my belly does make me happy for sure. I am also thankful for online blog friends! :)

And what a beautiful picture from WoO’s wedding. So creative! If I got to marry DH again, I’d want a picture like that.
