In my last honeymoon post, I told you about the first day that we spent aboard the Queen Mary II. But I don’t feel like my descriptions accurately portrayed just how incredible it was, so I want to try to show you what the ship looked like. Let me first say that pictures simply do not do it justice. I don’t know what to compare it too since I’ve not been on any other cruises, but from what I understand, it doesn’t get much better than this. It’s pretty easy to see why.
At the center of the ship you’ll find the Grand Lobby, aptly named because it is indeed very grand.

This is where most of the main hallways meet and where the shops are located. It is also where you find the concierge or customer service area.

We didn’t spend a lot of time here because there are so many other places on the ship, but it’s a good starting point. And since we’re talking about the shopping area, you have to know that these weren’t ordinary shops. We’re talking H. Stern’s, Chopard, Harrod’s and of course, Hermes.

I couldn’t afford to buy anything there unfortunately, but I sure could look!
Leading away from the Grand Lobby were beautiful hallways filled with larger-than-life bronze pieces adorning the walls.

They were located in several places around the ship and were truly amazing.

These particular hallways led to the formal restaurant called the Britannia.

The restaurant was the main dining establishment for dinner or for breakfast and lunch should you choose. It was spread out on two floors and had several entrances.

If you did not want to participate in formal dining, there were several other options from which to choose. There was the Chart Room which offered live jazz and the drink of your choice.

The Golden Lion Pub was another favorite. It offered typical fare that you would find in a pub such as fish and chips or burgers.

Then of course there was the Kings Court dining area,

where you could eat buffet style and choose from the many Italian options located at La Piazza,

or the British-style carved roasts from the Carvery. There was even an area called The Lotus which offered multinational Asian cuisine.
If you were looking to lounge instead of eat, there were several options located all over the ship.

Places where you could sit back and relax and listen to good music while enjoying the atmosphere.

If you felt like it, you could even kick up your heels at the G32 – the Queen Mary II’s very own nightclub.

During the evenings, the club would be dimly lit with just the right touch of funky lights to give it a true club-like atmosphere.

If club dancing wasn’t your thing, several times during the week a formal dance was held in the Queens Room, aka the Ballroom.

Here you could dance the night away while wearing your gowns and tuxedos, or you could just sit back and enjoy watching everyone else’s moves.

If dancing wasn’t your thing, you could always walk down the hall…

and see a new movie in the ship’s full-size theater: Illuminations.

The theater also served as a planetarium during daytime showings.

And later in the evening, musical and vaudeville -type productions were shown on stage in the Royal Court Theater.

In addition to the theaters and dining, there were a number of things to do around the ship. You could hang out in one of the lounge areas,

or you could play a game.

You could visit the library and check out a book or you could spend some time in the business room.

You could even sit near the windows that were level with the water and read a good book while enjoying the view.

Speaking of water, for a change of scenery there was always the outside of the ship too.

You could walk around the helm of the ship and look out over the horizon.

Or you could play basketball and other sports on the top deck. There was even a pool and chairs for lounging in the sun.

There was so much to do and see on this ship, so many things that I didn’t show here such as the full gym, the spa, the library, you name it and they had it.
I think the cruise line understands that being on board for six days is a long time and people like having a variety of things to do. This ship definitely doesn’t disappoint. Even though the pictures don’t fully show its beauty, the Queen Mary II is truly lovely and would be an enjoyable place for anyone to spend a week at sea.
