The Apple iPhone. One of man’s greatest inventions since, well, the telephone. I must confess that the CPA and I weren’t original converts. When the iPhone was first introduced we looked at it, smiled and thought, “$500.00, are you crazy?” And we went on our merry way.

But a few months later, when the new and improved iPhone was announced, one that had twice as much memory at half the cost, we said, “Where do we sign up?” It wasn’t an easy process if you’ll remember. People formed lines running outside the stores and down the street. We even heard about customers camping out in front of the Apple store all the night before in order to be first in line. We weren’t quite that excited!
Instead, we waited for about a week and then we went to the AT&T store where we said goodbye to our Treo and Blackberry (and Verizon Wireless) while we signed up for a new iPhone plan. We ordered one phone in black and one in white (so we could tell them apart of course) and we were told it might be several weeks. Imagine our surprise and delight when a week later we both were the recipients of shiny, new iPhones!
It didn’t take us long to figure out how to work them either, as they are pretty intuitive. But the best part about these phones isn’t the cool touch screen, Internet service, emails, or the ability to watch movies, store photos or listen to music.

No, the best part about the iPhone is the applications. According to Apple, there are 25,000 applications to choose from. 25,000!! (For those of you who may not know what an application is and have no idea what I’m talking about, it’s basically software or a mini program that does something. It can be a game, a map, a calculator, etc.)

The point is, there are thousands of them from which to choose. I personally have 33 of them on my iPhone. There’s Mental Math, where the object is to solve math equations in order to piece together the picture.

Then there’s iGossip which allows me to check on my favorite celebrities and read various “news” articles.

If I wanted to go shopping for food, I could create a grocery list by using the Grocery Gadget.

And for the one-time low price of just 99 cents, I can check maps on the World Atlas any time I want,

or, for $4.99, I could manage my personal finances.

Don’t even get me started with the games that are offered! Okay, maybe one. ”Blocked” is one of my favorites.

As you can see, there’s an app for pretty much everything. Which is why I spend so much time playing on my phone. With so many apps and so little time, it keeps a girl busy!

Now for the moment you’ve been waiting for: the Giveaway. While I wish I could afford to give away an iPhone (trust me, if I could give one away, I would definitely give it to one of you, my Internet peeps), I really can’t. BUT, I can give away a $30.00 iTunes gift card. That’s almost as good, right?
Even if you don’t have an iPhone (or an iPod for that matter), you can still use iTunes (it’s free) on any computer to download music, movies, even TV shows! So I guarantee that it can be put to good use. And if you don’t want to use it, I’m sure you have a son/daughter, niece, nephew, etc. who would love it.
To enter, you must do BOTH of these:
- Email me (fromsingletomarried@gmail.com) and tell me the name of my dog. I promise, it’s on my website in several places, you just have to find it. Think of it as a scavenger hunt!
- Leave a comment in the comment section of today’s post telling me what you would buy if you win the gift card.
That’s it! A random winner will be drawn next Wednesday. Good luck!!
