It was surprisingly easy to get into Canada. I don’t know what exactly I was expecting, some kind of body search perhaps or at the very least, a metal detector. But no, we were simply asked what was our business in Canada, how long we were staying, and if we were carrying any weapons. And before I knew it, we were in the land of “eh’s”, Mounties, and maple syrup.

Our destination, Niagara Falls, was located on a few miles away, which was nice considering we had been driving for 12 hours and were hungry. We were staying at the Marriott hotel and as usual, the accommodations were excellent.

I was so excited to see the falls but it was too dark to get a really good look. Instead, we sat by the fireplace and enjoyed our nighttime view.
When we woke up the next morning, the first thing I did was rush to the window for my first glimpse of the falls. I wasn’t disappointed.

While I couldn’t see it all, I could tell that it was pretty impressive and that I wanted to see more. There are several ways to view the falls, from an up close and personal boat ride to a walk through the caves behind the water. We decided to try the boat ride called the Maid of the Mist.
So we left the hotel and made the journey down to the water. The walk along the way was very beautiful and the tree-lined streets were filled with restaurants, shops and hotels.

We finally made our way to the American end of the falls where we were able to buy our boat tickets.

After buying tickets, we hopped on an elevator which took us to the river level so we could board the boat.

We were given our requisite ponchos that were used to protect us from the water. It’s a good thing too because it was about to get really wet.

In fact, it was so wet that after a while, we moved to the lower level because we were getting drenched.

But before we did, we took lots of pictures.

While we were on the boat, the sky was gray and overcast and the water was dark.

It was also very choppy, especially the closer we got to the falls. Trying to take pictures while keeping our balance was proving to be challenging. But somehow we managed and we enjoyed the experience.

And a short 20 minutes later we had returned to the dock. By that time, the sun had started to come out and so our pictures overlooking the falls were much different than before.
This is the American side which faces Canada.

And this is the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, which, surprisingly enough, is shaped like a horseshoe.

We walked along the edge of the falls, taking pictures along the way. It was really quite lovely. By the time we reached the Canadian falls, we were soaked as the spray was coming down on us just the same as if it were raining.

But it was worth it because it was absolutely beautiful.

After our long walk and since we were so wet, we decided it was time to leave. So we made the long walk back to the hotel.

Where we packed up our bags, got our car, and headed out to continue our journey. It was the perfect visit – long enough to see the breathtaking beauty of the falls, short enough to not get tired of being there.
Next stop: Western New York!
We heard that a lot of people take their honeymoon there, in fact, we even saw a bride in her wedding dress. So I’m curious: would you ever take your honeymoon at Niagara Falls?
Have you been to the Falls?
