Re: your comment on my blog, IT IS INSANE. The first time a man gave me birth advice, I sort of shrugged it off. The second time, I thought it was a weird coincidence. But now that we’re approaching the end of the first dozen, it’s driving me up the wall. It doesn’t usually bother me when women, with or without children, give me advice. I know they mean well. And women, for better or for worse, tend to discuss things like pregnancy and motherhood with other women, so even if they’ve never experienced it they have a pretty good grasp on the biology of things and their personal preferences, etc. Sometimes I’ll meet a man who has a pretty good grasp on things too, in which case I’ll cut him some slack.

It’s just that a man knowing what he’s talking about with regards to birth choices is really in the minority. It really surprises me that it’s happening at all. For most of the pregnancy, men have avoided me like the plague, and now all they want to do is ask personal questions and give ridiculous advice.
