That Was Then… This is Now

I realize that by posting these pictures on the Internet, I will have officially lost all dignity.  In fact, my husband walked in as I was writing this and asked, and I quote, “you’re not posting those, are you?”  But the way I look at it, this blog has always been about my life, even the not so glamorous parts.    So here you go.

The funny thing about this first picture, taken back in June when we first found out and I was at 4 1/2 weeks, is that I remember thinking how fat I was.  I had recently put on about 10 pounds from not exercising and not eating as well as I should.

4-weeks

I’m beginning to think that picture wasn’t so bad, because this is me now, at 15 weeks, 3 days.

15-weeks

It’s amazing what three months of morning sickness, weird cravings (mmm… mashed potatoes and pickles), and a baby growing inside will do to a body!

How did you feel about the way you looked when you were pregnant?  When did you start showing?

What an adorable baby bump! Unfortunately for myself, I am overweight to begin with so there is no such thing as an adorable baby bump for me. Even so, I love being pregnant and feeling my body get bigger with baby. I especially love feeling my little one kick right now. With my first pregnancy, it took awhile for me to show (being overweight) but for some reason with this second one, it’s a lot quicker. Even my FIL commented I look bigger at 27 weeks now than I did with #1. I haven’t gained much at all (thank goodness). Truthfully at this point, I feel like I’m almost at the point where I gave birth with #1 (about 36 weeks). You are looking terrific and embrace the changes the body goes through during this time! :)

Julie - August 21, 2009 - 5:08 am

Never been pregnant but it is interesting to think about. I wonder how I will feel. I guess a lot of it will depend if I’ve lost my extra 45 pounds by then or not honestly. You look great though. And frankly, the 10 extra lbs doesn’t show in your before picture. :)

Oh yaaaay! I love when people put belly photos up! You look awesome!

Joanna - August 21, 2009 - 5:20 am

Awwwww … you’re too cute!!!

I was SO excited to start showing. I loved it! The only thing I didn’t like was the Random Belly Touchers near the end.

You look great!

Ambulance Mommy - August 21, 2009 - 5:42 am

I was happy to start showing, because I’ve always been on the bigger side, so it was fun to sort of not worry about being so big in the belly!!

one thought: embrace maternity clothes!!! they are SOOO incredibly comfy and the day you switch to them, you will wonder why you waited so long to start wearing them :)

kriss - August 21, 2009 - 5:52 am

I am so excited your sharing this new adventure with us! I think your fabulous in both pictures! If your concerned though with having extra weight to lose after pregnancy you might check into some pregnancy yoga videos or light weights with stretching. Make sure and get lots of walking in and try to cut salt. Yay, this is sooooo exciting!!!!! -kriss

Mom of 5 - August 21, 2009 - 6:41 am

You look MARVELOUS!!! What cute pictures and you really do look wonderful. I appreciate your sharing especially since we don’t get to see you every day. Can’t wait to see your first maternity top – they have such great selections from wich to choose. You’re going to be a beautiful Mom-to-Be!!!

erin - August 21, 2009 - 7:28 am

I agree with Ambulance Mommy, embrace maternity clothes!! I wish I had started in on mine sooner. I did not “pop” until about 20 weeks, and before that just looked like I couldn’t lay off the donuts. Maternity clothes would have gone a long way to making me LOOK pregnant.

Oooooh I can’t wait for more belly photos. You look great!

Mindee@ourfrontdoor - August 21, 2009 - 8:17 am

I looked like a bloated hippo. Tents did not fit me. By the time I was 16 weeks with the third people were already asking me if I was due soon.

The Wife of Odie - August 21, 2009 - 8:35 am

You look fabulous!! Whoa mama! Thanks for posting. I can’t wait to see more!

admin - August 21, 2009 - 9:10 am

You guys are too sweet! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who couldn’t find things to wear. It’s one thing to gain weight for a good reason, it’s another to not have clothes that fit. :)

Tabitha Blue - August 21, 2009 - 9:16 am

Oh but you look great!!! That’s a healthy growing belly and it’s wonderful to see!!! I’ve still got to take mine… maybe I’ll work on that this weekend!

:)

Sabrina - August 21, 2009 - 9:22 am

Awww, the memories! I started really showing between 3 and 4 months the first time, earlier the second of course. My first one looked like a basketball in my belly. People told me how jealous they were. I thought they were crazy. LOL With my second, all of the medical issues had me so swollen and I felt huge. But with both of them I LOVED every second! It is truly an amazing and indescribable feeling.

Kristina P. - August 21, 2009 - 9:47 am

One of my best friends just let the cat out of the bag last night that she’s almost 16 weeks along. She started showing about a month ago, but I thought she was just in that post marriage happiness eating stage!

You look great!

Eryn - August 21, 2009 - 11:04 am

hehehe…oh honey just wait…pretty soon you’ll be like me, as gigantic as you ever could have imagined. :)

Jenna @ Newlyweds - August 21, 2009 - 12:11 pm

Love the belly pics, you are absolutely right, it really is amazing what a growing baby will do to your body. Enjoy every second of it, and please keep the pics coming. Tell your hubby not to worry, we all do it. Trust me you don’t want to see mine, it just might scare the bejesus out of you, that and I don’t think I’ve ever posted them on my blog!

Erin - August 21, 2009 - 1:58 pm

You look great. And you just wait….it gets worse with second and third pregnancies. I’m about 14 weeks right now, and I look like I did when I was 20 weeks with my first. oy vey!

P.S. Gap is having a maternity sale right now. Buy one get one free shirts! and $20 off jeans. Having cute maternity clothes to wear makes me feel a bagazillion times better… :)

sparkly_jules - August 21, 2009 - 4:56 pm

Those pictures are the sweetest thing, ever. I was hoping you would do something along those lines. . . I can live vicariously through your blog since I can’t have any of my own. So sweet. Thank you for putting them up!

Heather @critter chronicles - August 23, 2009 - 1:50 am

How fun that you’re showing already! I wasn’t obviously pregnant (to the point that strangers could tell) until I was almost 5.5 months along with both of mine, though I had to switch to elastic waistbands and maternity pants around the 12-14 week mark, and long after I’d felt the first kicks. Having other people notice was more of a validation for me, like, “Oh yeah, this is actually happening!”

Kate - August 23, 2009 - 7:05 am

ADORABLE tummy photos! Both look fabulous. Can’t wait to see more.

MyHormonesMadeMeDoIt - August 23, 2009 - 8:11 pm

Why do we all get pregnant confused with fat? Not criticizing you, just food for thought for all of us crazy ladies…

Heidi - August 24, 2009 - 5:58 am

You have not lost dignity, Tab. Sarah flashes areolae on her blog, so I think you’re quite reserved in comparison. Tell the CPA we all got bellies. My pug’s belly is bigger than yours. :)

Sam - August 24, 2009 - 8:43 am

Hooray! Maybe this post will inspire me to finally put up some of my belly pics.

Janet - August 24, 2009 - 9:12 am

First of all, you look (and Looked) Fantastic!

Such terrific progress!

ENJOY this time!

Helena - August 24, 2009 - 10:08 am

This is so funny! I went online today to check on your progress and wondering whether you might post some belly photos… And YES, you did! Thanks!! And you look so great!

the domestic fringe - August 25, 2009 - 7:44 am

You look great! My stomach got so big when I was pregnant that people expected me to be giving birth at any moment when I was only 6 months along. It was terrible. I carried HUGE, but I had big babies too. A friend of my husbands that I’d only know while being pregnant came over a few weeks after I’d given birth and he didn’t recognize me…pretty bad, huh? The stomach went away quickly, but I’m left with no less than a zillion stretch marks and some extra saggy skin on my tummy. I guess it’s a small price to pay for two healthy kids.

Tabitha,

I have surfed you before from PW’s site–and first read you around the time of your wedding, but hadn’t been to your site in awhile. I just wanted to say, “Congratulations!” to you and your husband on the baby. Am so excited for you guys. Enjoy it all. I am 46, have had one child–but wanted six…smile!

–>I didn’t feel like I looked pregnant vs. fat til I was about six or seven months. Everyone is different though!

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com - August 25, 2009 - 10:32 am

I started showing around 8 weeks – to my eye – and around 11 weeks – to my family’s eyes – and around 14 weeks – to everyone else’s eyes. I really think there’s a difference =)

Also, I LOVED my pregnant body. Even with the inconveniences as I got bigger and couldn’t reach my toes, etc, I loved the way it looked. At the very end, about the last ten days, I wasn’t too keen on my butt, though. Lol. Enjoy your body while it’s growing a baby; it’s really amazing to watch your belly expand and know why. Also, you don’t look fat in those pictures, so don’t worry =)

Liz - August 26, 2009 - 12:03 pm

No dignity lost! You’re a gorgeous pregnant woman! And dont feel bad… I’m not pregnant and still might try pickles and mashed potatoes. :)

Sarah L - August 26, 2009 - 12:27 pm

I just found this blog through Becoming Sarah and I am very excited I found you because you are 3 more days pregnant than me! :) I will be 4 months tomorrow. Just went to my 3rd appt. yesterday and hadn’t gained any weight since my last one 4 weeks ago. I am overweight a bit, but I am finally getting a baby bump and couldnt’ be more excited! I am definitely bookmarking you!
I also have been craving mashed potatoes…glad I’m not the only one. Anyway, congrats on the pregnancy. =)

Genevieve - August 26, 2009 - 8:19 pm

You’re braver then I ever was. No way I’d post a picture like that! :)

I put the 14th on my calendar!

Lori VonC - August 27, 2009 - 2:21 pm

Ahhhh, Tab! You look so cute and even though I can’t see your face, you look happy! I started showing busting out of my clothes at 13-15 weeks w/ Maya. Then w/ Kyle and Avery it was around 9-11 weeks. I gained the least amount of weight w/ the last 2 though, go figure. We’re so excited for you. Can’t wait to see more pictures of your belly.

the inadvertent farmer - August 28, 2009 - 7:49 am

I LOVED it…a perfect excuse to not suck in my belly anymore. Then again I don’t need much of an excuse! And as we are talking about figures and bellies…please don’t look at my blog post today, no first time preggo moms allowed, seriously…you’ve been warned! Kim

Serene - August 28, 2009 - 9:54 am

You look great! (although whenever someone said that to me I would think to myself, “you think a beached whale looks cute!?)
My first baby I gained 20 pounds in the first 4 months and I started wearing maternity clothes to hide it all. And I gained 37 pounds total.
Everyone says you gain more with each but with my second, I only gained 25 pounds. So each one has been different. But I did gain more with my girls than with my boys.
I had a hard time with the way my body looked AFTER I had my first. Now, it is what it is. And I just do the best with what I got! =)

Rachel - September 10, 2009 - 12:05 pm

Congrats! It’s been a while since I visited! So happy for you!
