Monday Musings: 20 Week Mark

Today is the 20 week mark, a.k.a., the “half way point.”  In celebration of this momentous occasion I’ve taken some pictures of my thickening waistline.  Let me just warn you: it’s not pretty.

The good news is that I feel like I’ve finally popped.  That’s how I’ve heard it described from others – it’s the time when you finally start looking like you’re pregnant (instead of looking like you’ve just eaten too many cookies.)

Let’s do a recap, shall we?  Here is the baby bump at 15 weeks, 3 days:

15-weeks

And here it is today at 20 weeks.

20-weeks

Is it just me, or is it looking a little droopy?  I have no idea what’s normal so I’m not sure what to compare it to.  I do know that during the ultrasound, they concentrated on the top part of my stomach so I think he must be sitting up pretty high.

The coolest part is that my stomach feels hard now.  I lie in bed at night and rub my tummy and I can tell that a baby’s in there.  No longer does it just feel flabby, but it now feels like I imagined it should.

And I actually had someone come up to me this past week and ask me when I am due.

20-weeks-3

I think that makes it official.

How far along were you when you “popped”?

This is my third–don’t ask that. :) It was very, very early!

Joanna - September 21, 2009 - 5:24 am

Kristy-HA!!!!! I was thinking along the same lines! :)

With my first it was around twenty weeks or so. With Dax, the maternity clothes came out about the same time as those two little lines popped up on the stick!

I don’t want to revisit my popped look. I’m sure it took at least two days before I started showing with my second pregnancy. You look great! Glad you’re feeling well.

I think it DOES look pretty!

Amber - September 21, 2009 - 8:14 am

You look wonderful! I’m tall and didn’t “show” till about 20 weeks or so. Enjoy it, sista! Live it up and milk it for all its worth. Just don’t gain 70 pounds. I definitely don’t recommend gaining 70 pounds.

You look fabulous! What an adorable little baby bump. How exciting that you feel like you LOOK pregnant now. I can imagine the weeks leading up to the “popping” can feel somewhat frustrating.

erin - September 21, 2009 - 8:47 am

I love your baby belly! I did not pop until about 20+ weeks. It was insanely frustrating.

PS: I highly recommend getting maternity “belly” photos taken, if you feel like you can afford it. It is really wonderful to me to have a few really beautiful, professional photos of me and my husband and my pregnant belly, especially since we do not often “do” professional photos. (I think the last time we had was when we got married.) If you don’t feel like showing your actual belly, I saw one of my girlfriends do them with a tight camisole. So lovely.

You guys are too kind to me. :) And Erin – I think that’s a great idea! Especially after seeing Tabitha Blue’s belly pictures (from http://freshmommyblog.com/) I’ll have to find a photographer in the area who can take some and make me look pregnant AND cute.

Jill - September 21, 2009 - 8:56 am

So did having someone ask your due date just give you perma-smile all day? :) You look great btw!

Terra - September 21, 2009 - 9:20 am

You look wonderful!!! All pregnant bellies look different, so there is no “normal”. :)
I really popped around 6 months with my first one, and around 4 with my second. :)

joy - September 21, 2009 - 9:59 am

I know I popped much earlier this time around because even my FIL said so. Not sure when but I think it might have been around the 4 or 5 month mark. You can only tell if I wear maternity clothing which accentuates the bump! :) If I wear something loose and blouse like, it’s harder to see.

Kristina - September 21, 2009 - 11:05 am

You look so cute!

Mindee@ourfrontdoor - September 21, 2009 - 12:02 pm

Wait till strangers come up and start fondling you. Not so fun. Of course I say that, but I have totally done it myself. PG bellies are like magnets!

Genevieve - September 21, 2009 - 12:31 pm

At about 1 week! I still haven’t popped back from Peter! ;-)

Making my Mark - September 21, 2009 - 2:31 pm

I’m glad you’ve documented this with pictures. You’ll love looking back on this someday.

Stephanie - September 21, 2009 - 3:13 pm

Wow!!! It’s going so quickly, that’s amazing. I remember when my stomach first felt hard :)

I think I popped around 18 weeks.

Katrina - September 21, 2009 - 3:25 pm

It’s been too long since I stopped over here…. CONGRATS!!! How fun that you and Tracy are pregnant at the same time.

cari - September 21, 2009 - 5:16 pm

5 month mark with my first and i am 6 weeks along as of this wed. and I already am wearing maternity pants (or can do the rubber band trick on reg. pants). IT happened way faster this time. I look about 3 months along!

Robynn's Ravings - September 21, 2009 - 10:34 pm

When strangers start asking you’re right – it’s official. :)

Serene - September 21, 2009 - 10:50 pm

You look great! Can’t wait to hear what you’re having!

I bow my head in shame when I admit that I gained 20 pounds my first trimester with my first pregnancy. Luckily I have learned not to do that but, I show pretty early. Have with all four! Much sooner than 20 weeks… much, much sooner. =)

Serene - September 21, 2009 - 10:51 pm

Okay, so I just read your previous post. Congrats on the boy! They are some crazy fun!

Jenna @ Newlyweds - September 22, 2009 - 8:04 pm

Love the pictures and yes when someone asks when you due it’s almost like that makes it official, no more hiding. ha ha! I think I was about 18 weeks when I popped.

Holly - September 24, 2009 - 9:00 pm

I have only had twins and I popped by about 15 weeks with them.

Aww, you look great!! I love that I’ve popped out now, I really do feel pregnant and not just ‘big’ hahaha.

Keep it up, mama! :)
