I'm scheduled to get the H1N1 shot next Thursday.
I will admit having reservations about the whole thing--primarily how little it has been tested. I've never even had a seasonal flu shot in my life (I've been offered the shot several times and chosen not to), so you can imagine this isn't a decision I'm making lightly.
But now I'm in the "high risk" group as a woman 23 weeks pregnant, with an almost 3yo daughter and a 17 month-old son, as well.
My son was born at 32 weeks, and I'm on weekly progesterone shots with this pregnancy to keep me from going into preterm labor again.
So my inclination is to say that the risks are greater to both the baby and me if I don't get the shot . . . but I have no proof. And at this point, no one else can really prove that either.
So I'm just hoping they're right!

I never got the flu shot because I was never sick. I still don't have to go to my regular doctor more than once a year.

I'm having to stay in bed a lot due to pain and my doctor didn't want me getting pnuemonia, so I got the flu shot.

I used to never get flu shots. But, after reading about pregnant women being in the highest risk category, coupled with teaching middle school where kids are coming to school with fevers, I thought it might be a good idea this year. So, I got both the h1n1 and the seasonal flu shots and so did my hubby. Before I got the shots, though, I ended up in bed for almost a whole week with a mild fever and sore throat. The doctor's office told me not to come in and just to rest.

34 weeks this week!

Its no fun having a bad cold and thankful you both are better. I had a flu shot last week and even though I've heard all the arguements against (only protects against one strain, can bring the flu on etc), I figured it couldn't hurt! Take it easy

I've never gotten the flu shot before even during my pregnancies, but this year I was all set to get it. Mainly because I have asthma and I've been having a rough time with it this fall. I had to go to the doctors last week for an asthma recheck and they ran out of shots! Go figure. I'm supposed to go back this week, but I haven't even called yet. I think I'd better pick up the phone.

I'm so glad you and CPA are feeling better!!! It stinks being sick, but it's worse to be sick and be pregnant. It makes it stressful.

So glad you're beginning to feel better. Sorry you and the CPA both had to suffer through the flu. I've taken the regular flu shot but don't know if the COP and I will be able to get the H1N1 any time soon - we're in the other age bracket you know. Take good care of yourselves as you get back to feeling like yourselves. We're thinking of you.

So glad you're feeling better! My daughter tested positive for H1N1 last Wed. We were lucky and caught it so early -because I knew she had been exposed, as soon as she exhibited symptoms I took her - she didn't have any major problems, thank goodness.

I was tested Thursday, it was negative but was put on Tamiflu anyway because I had fever, have had fever constantly since then but no other symptoms.

My kids get the seasonal flu shot every year but I have been unsure about the H1N1 vaccine. Have had more than one person in the health industry say that they wouldn't recommend it for various reasons, but if I was pregnant, I probably would have gotten it too.

I am almost at the end of my first trimester.. and am NOT getting the vaccine. There is zero testing of the effects on a fetus and I do not want side effects to be discovered down the road.. I am far from paranoid and my 21 mo old had all of his shots, etc on schedule. I am taking my chances. I stay at home with my son so am not around tons of people. I use sanitizer when i do go out, etc. and am super vigilant. No one knows what is in that vaccine and the effects on a developing baby. You did the right thing for your situation though, you were sick and did not want to get worse. You did what was best for the baby and good for you. Thank god it is over and you are back to normal. Scary stuff... a lot of friends with children are sick now. I am the only pregnant one so don't know how many women are deferring the vaccine. I think just do what you feel is best and you cannot go wrong.

Side note: I read articles that many doctors are advising their families to skip the H1N1 shot.. and when I asked my doctor if she was getting it she dodged the question.

The doctor told me to wait until Charlotte was 4 months to get the vaccine because at that age, the antibodies I build would be most effectively transferred to her. So I've got another month to go.

I'm pretty much spending that month holed up at home.
