Precious! It is priceless for sure!! My husband and I were poor BYU students when I was pregnant with my first baby. I think it was either 1700 or 700 to have a baby 28 years ago. As I said we were Poor students. I had to end of selling my piano to pay for the bill. It was well worth it! :D

Jessica @ How Sweet It Is - November 19, 2009 - 4:39 am

I’m sure it is absolutely priceless!! (but I’m still not going to show my husband this list. :) )

Okay, I’m impressed that you have a log of what you’ve spent. The CPA’s accounting practices must have rubbed off on you. You really are so organized.

You’re right though, it’s completely priceless. You’ll never regret it! As you know though, this is only the beginning of what the little bundle will cost you.

All I have to say is where did you get your crib??? I’ve heard they’re crazy expensive, but you only have it listed as $300

Worth every penny. No doubt.

But love this list — so helpful! Before we started trying to conceive, my husband would ask everyone, “How much does a baby cost?”. I know the government says one thing, but your numbers are real!

Ambulance Mommy - November 19, 2009 - 7:14 am

speaking of prices pre-baby….check your health insurance’s policies. mine required me to call and tell them i was going to the hospital to deliver or they charged me an extra $200 for the overnight stay. if i had called them, they would have only charged $50. just a little tip to make things easier!! :) hope you are well!

Nicole - November 19, 2009 - 7:39 am

It is worth every penny! (Nevermind that they cost more each year!) One of our local news stations was doing a story on the cost of having a baby and they interviewed me with our second baby. It was so cool that they chose to use the interview and my precious baby was on tv 4 days after he was born! (cost of babies just made me think of this)

Two words:
Baby Shower

And Tabitha, I hate to tell you this, but this is nothing. This is just to prepare you for the mounting expenses to come!

You are exactly right. All of those expenses mean nothing when push comes to shove. What means something is that you get to love and care for that sweet baby.

Wow! You did a lot better than me in some categories! I want to know what crib you went with as well and stroller too! My crib still hasn’t arrived but the nursery is painted. I can’t wait for it all to be finished. I’m 32 weeks and it seems like with the holidays coming the time is starting to simply fly by.

admin - November 19, 2009 - 12:52 pm

Kim – you’ve got that right! I presented an entire list to the CPA so that we could determine a “baby budget” and hopefully stick to it. Trust me – a lot of research and thought went into it. :)

Lauren – I actually got mine through Walmart of all places. It got five stars and seems to be nice and sturdy – I haven’t put it together yet but am hopeful it is everything it says it is! http://www.walmart.com/Baby-Mod-4in1-Crib-Espresso/ip/10756405

I swear sometimes that you and I share part of a brain. I have something very similar – a log of costs, if you will – sitting in my drafts folder right now.

All I can say is thank goodness for family and baby showers =)

Add me to the group wondering, “is she anti-baby shower?!” I think it’s pretty amazing you’ve kept track. I probably would go ahead and stop now if I were you, LOL.

Ohhh! I’m glad I didn’t keep track of all my kids cost me. I may suffer heart palpitations. They keep costing a lot as they grow too…maybe more. ;-)

My husband and I were poor poor poor when we had our first. I was so sad thinking I would not have a cute nursery. My mom came over one Saturday afternoon and we were creative and came up with a super cute nursery for hardly any money.
I felt so much better after I had the cute nursery. I remember sitting in it and rubbing my tummy and I just couldn’t wait until she came.
I have 4 now . . . and my kids rooms have never looked that cute and clean since! :)

We were blessed with finding our 3 piece nursery furniture set for only $100 ( used, yes, but in excellent shape ). However, I did splurge and spent $200 on the cutest western bedding set. :)

Howdy, what a wonderful site you have. I found it on Bing while looking for some baby items. Thanks and God bless.
