Baby Shower Fun
Tue, Dec 8, 2009
For a lot of women, a baby shower is a once in a lifetime experience. Â Well, not attending them, that’s something that’s a little more frequent (I’ve gone to three in the past two months, not including my own). Â But having your first baby shower for your first little person is a momentous occasion. Â At least it was for me. Â
It’s been several years since I’ve gone to one due to moving around and not knowing a lot of people in the area, so I really had no expectations whatsoever. Â More than anything, I was just grateful that my sister Tracy and my friend Paige had offered to host one. Â All I had to do was give them a list of friends names and my job was done. Â
It was held a couple of weeks ago at Paige’s house which was perfect for such an event.
(My talented sister made the welcome sign and these adorable favors.) Â
A recent remodel to Paige’s home has given her a beautiful (and huge, I might add) kitchen which is ideal for entertaining.
We spent most of our time in there and in the family room just off of the kitchen.
I think my favorite part of the room was the table decorated with pictures of the CPA and me when we were children. Â (more on that in another post)
Guests began arriving around 7:30 and we all mingled, ate, and basically just hung out. Â It was awesome! Â
As a side note, there were four other pregnant women there for a grand total of five pregnant ladies in one room. Â What are the chances? Â
A special note of thanks goes to my mom (pictured here, on the left, with her sister, my aunt) for making the trip up from Georgia for the weekend. Â And thanks for taking the pictures too – I didn’t actually take more than a couple so I appreciate her handiwork. Â
And here I am in all my glory standing alongside the lovely Paige (I’m the large pregnant one). Â
I didn’t want a lot of pictures taken of me considering I’ve grown up and out considerably, but I did find this one side shot. Â Definitely not the most flattering of pics, but at least you can tell that yes, I do have a baby in there.
After visiting for a while, it was time to get down to business – the business of opening gifts.
Tracy was the official present presenter who incidentally did a great job of keeping track of who gave what (I’m still working on those thank you notes ladies, they’ll be in the mail soon). Â Â
I remember this part from my bridal shower and it was just as much fun, if not more so. Â I think it’s because there’s something special about cute little baby things that just warms the heart.
There were adorable little onesies like this blue and white number that my stepmother made which read “I Am A Child of God.” Â Sweet, no?
Then there was this beautiful baby book which can be used to hold all sorts of pictures and mementos. Â
And the outfits – oh my the outfits! Â It’s hard to believe that in a few short months our little guy will be big enough to fit into these, but they tell me that it’ll happen. Â
There were also keepsake gifts like this little box from my aunt which was made of pewter and reads, “First Curl.” Â I tell ya – I can hardly stand the cuteness!
Finally, around 9:00, all the gifts had been opened and the cake had been eaten and it was time to take our leave. Â My mom and my sister loaded up the car while I said my goodbyes. Â
The shower was officially a success and I can’t thank Tracy and Paige enough for taking care of everything. Â They did a fantastic job and it was absolutely perfect. Â I also want to thank all my sweet friends who attended and who generously gave gifts for our little guy. Â They were all adorable and thoughtful and I can hardly wait to use them!
Did you have a baby shower? Â How many showers have you attended this year? Â

I think you look great! You are all baby!

Yay! Baby showers are so much fun. I’ve not attended showers this year, since we’ve not lived here too terribly long. We had a couple for our first baby. Since we’re in a new place and had a boy (after two girls) our church threw us a shower after Nate was born–this past weekend. We were mostly given boy clothes and toiletries, but we also were given a new diaper pail–we actually wore one out!
You were given some lovely things. Congrats!

You look wonderful!!! I did have a couple baby showers for my first baby. It was so much fun! No shower for the 2nd baby, but the 3rd baby came 5 1/2 years after the 2nd…..so there were a couple of showers for him. It was really needed with the 3rd….we had just accepted that we couldn’t have anymore children, packed up the baby stuff and gave it away on a Wednesday and that Saturday received a phone call from a relative – asking if we would adopt her baby! Well, 4 1/2 weeks later I was holding my new son!

And it looked like you had a lovely time!

Baby showers don’t exist in France (and in many other countries around the world for that matter). It’s not that we don’t give gifts for the new baby but we tend to want not to take our chances. I don’t want to be sounding “negative” as I’m writing this post but in a way, you never know what can happen just before the birth, during, or right after. So we prefer not to celebrate the baby until he/she really shows up in good health.
That said, after attending a few in the US, I think it’s a great opportunity to get together with your female friends before your life radically changes (for the best!). You were fortunate to have your loving friends and family around you.
If you are thinking of adding a few items on a baby-gift list, I highly recommend the Beaba Babycook for the day you are ready to cook some home-made meals for your little one.
Good luck!

No kiddos for me yet. But in the last month I’ve attended 3 showers. Yes, 3. And you know, they were all for the same person, my BFF who is expecting twins in January.

Yay! I finally get to see you pregnant! You look so beautiful Tabitha and yes, Jill is right. Your happiness radiates. I’m so excited for you and the CPA. Can’t wait to “meet” your son.
While I don’t mind ATTENDING showers, I do mind being the center of attention at one. I learned this about myself when I was given not one, but two bridal showers this year. I find it a little awkward, being the center of attention, opening all those presents while people ooo and aaaa and smile blankly at you. I’d rather be at the back of the room. I realize you should just roll with it. It’s not every day you get to be queen. It’s just that … well … I guess I’m surly or something.
Still, you look ravishing pregnant and Tracy and Paige threw a wonderful party. (Paige’s home is SWANK! Hello MTV Cribs.)

And ohmygod, all those pregnant ladies! Is there something in the water up there? I saw the first baby bump and thought, Ah there’s Tabitha. And then I saw another woman with a baby bump and thought, Oh no, THERE’S Tabitha. And then I saw another woman …
It was like the Where’s Waldo of baby showers.

Looks like a fun time was had by all! Your belly is so sweet (I love pregnant bellies) and you look awesome. You really do. I had a fun time at my baby shower too. It is so hard to believe they will ever fit into those little clothes, and then they grow out of them. Congratulations!

Oh Tabitha, you look radiantly happy!!! You’re pregnant, not huge! LOL
I haven’t been to a baby shower in years–I can’t stand those annoying games they have like wearing a clothes pin and if you cross anything you have to give up a clothes pin to whoever catches you (crossing a leg, or an arm *roll eyes*), or those dirty diaper games, bleah. But I like the other parts of the showers. And babies are so wonderful….ah, the smell.
Me so happy for you!

At the present scenario, baby shower party is very popular in mostly every European country and also in US and UK. Baby shower favors are some kind of presents that reflects the cheerfulness that new parents feel. What kind of baby shower favors to make do you like?
