Finding the Perfect Suit

We have just over three weeks to find the perfect baby blessing (christening) outfit.  Henry’s big day is April 25th and we are looking for something that is perfect for a little boy and that can be handed down to his son should he one day choose to do so.

The CPA said we will absolutely not, under any circumstances, get something like this:

T600-2T

I can kind-of see where he’s coming from.  I think it’s beautiful, but it would probably take a really secure baby to be able to pull it off.

I suggested one of the traditional jumpers as a possibility, but that, too, was quickly vetoed.

We finally decided that we both liked either a suit, such as this one,

edward edward2

this blue and white sweater with shirt and pants,

harrison

or this knicker suit complete with bowtie and vest.

knickers1

(the vintage look includes suspenders instead of a vest.)

knickers 2

All three are adorable and would look great on Henry.  We are open to a black and white suit since we don’t have to have a white outfit, but we just can’t decide.

That’s why I need your help.  Keeping in mind that lots and lots of pictures will be taken for posterity’s sake, not to mention lots of family will be in attendance too, which outfit would you choose?

And I’m also curious as to what kind of blessing or christening outfit did you choose for your little one?

I personally like the suit or the last option but they are all cute!

This is what the twins wore:

Little Princess had a dress under the coat!

Ooh, I love the sweater (so comfy) or the knicker suit (so stylish). I chose to break with tradition for my little guy. Instead of going all white, I bought a green button-up shirt with a colorful striped tie and khaki pants. He also wore an adorable grey sweater with elbow patches.

i say the blue & white sweater set. seems traditional, but still baby like. i dont mind the traditional christening gowns on boys, but i get why some dont care for it. i dont love the suits that are really too big for their little sack of potatoes body-it just all bunches up around their little faces. cant wait to see what you pick.

I vote for the little blue and white sweater outfit. So comfortable in comparison to the others yet still dressed up enough for the occasion.

I too was originally like you and wanted nothing to do with the gown and went with a white jumper. I instantly regretted it when I saw the other children in the church being baptized. Here are my thoughts in no particular order…

Children have their whole life to dress up like little men and only a very short time to look like innocent sweet babies.
The child is being baptized…God doesnt need to know if it is a boy or girl…he only wants to bless this lovely bundle of joy.
There is something pure and innocent looking about offering the child to God in a none gender flowing gown and most of them are just cover ups and you can put something else under it if you wish.

I really regret not using my brothers old gown on my son and hopefully we’ll have another chance to use it.

What ever you choose..Henry will look adorable I’m sure.

I vote for the blue and white sweater with shirt and pants!

I like the second one… but it’s already been vetoed. I would probably still go for something like that… and tell my husband to get his own womb… but I’m kind of pushy that way. :)

My vote is for the sweater set. That was the exact outfit I was going to purchase if I had not made my son’s. He wore a gown, which I made as masculine as I could, but it could be worn for a girl as well (it’s just not frilly) I hope he’ll use it for his children some day. Enjoy the day. It was such a special day for us (about 2 weeks ago) – we really enjoyed welcoming our little one into God’s church and he liked it too.

Oh my goodness they are all so sweet! Little babies all dressed up are one of the cutest things I can imagine. Personally I like the blue and white sweater set. As others have said, it looks the most babyish and comfortable for him, rather than stiff.

I am due August 4th and my sister’s wedding is August 29th (ooops! bad planning!). I have my heart set on my little (3 week old?) guy wearing this adorable tuxedo onesie: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190378904648&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=WXI7&GUID=7ce4aaf11240a041b647fa67fffc393b&itemid=190378904648&ff4=263602_263622. Ha! It’s totally tongue-in-cheek though, so obviously doesn’t fit the same bill as the classic and beautiful outfits you’ve chosen :)

the last one please!!

Nicole - April 6, 2010 - 10:19 am

I love the last outfit! I blessed all three of my boys in the same gown….Yes, Gown! It wasn’t all shiny and fancy like the one you have pictured. It was a very plain white cotton fabric with very small pleating in the front and a pale blue ribbon trim – and no hat. I picked out the pattern and my mom made it for me. I’m embroidering their names and the date they were blessed on the gown itself. And YES – in case you were wondering – my boys were secure enough to wear the gown! (and my husband survived it!)

Eryn - April 6, 2010 - 10:47 am

Blue Sweater, for sure! Suits are so cute, but on babies they get all bunched up and don’t photograph as well. The sweater outfit will be adorable AND comfy! :)

CPA's Sister - April 7, 2010 - 10:32 am

What a shocker that the CPA vetoed the first two….so unlike him! :) I love the suit.

Natalie - April 7, 2010 - 3:35 pm

The blue and white sweater with shirt and pants is the most cute but comfortable look in my opinion.

Stephanie - April 7, 2010 - 4:03 pm

Ok, I don’t have any kids (yest!) but come from a huge family and I have been through this a million times. My cousin came up with a cute idea that she did for both her kids (boy & girl)–she had their christening outfits made from her wedding gown! She went very basic for both (1 boy & 1 girl). Just my 2 cents! Congrats on your adorable new addition!

Sarah @ BecomingSarah.com - April 7, 2010 - 5:32 pm

I love the last two. Babies in those all white christening outfits always remind me of marshmallows lol.

Kriss - April 8, 2010 - 8:04 am

We didn’t do a christening but an adoption outfit instead for his special day. My husband didn’t say to much because he knew I had a certain look in mind to match the other two’s adoption photos. I chose a silk sailor suit! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/krissriley/Benadopt08/stewartkristina8-2010.jpg

My daughter wore my christening dress. My son wore a little seersucker suit, light blue and white with a little pageboy hat. I love that little suit so much! I think I like the little light blue suit the best but they are all so cute!

Märtha - April 10, 2010 - 12:50 pm

I love the last outfit!

twinbeddingsale - April 11, 2010 - 2:09 pm

I’m partial to following tradition. I would go with something white. Either way, you will have no regrets, it will work out!

LaDonna - April 12, 2010 - 9:40 am

I love the blue and white outfit! The other ones look to old for such a sweet baby =)

Wendy - April 13, 2010 - 2:45 am

What ever you choose I am sure will look lovely on Henry. I’m with Lou though! Girls and boys look adorable in the traditional gown. A traditional suit would be my very last choice for for a baby. I also wouldn’t worry too much about keeping the outfit for the next generation as that rarely happens these day :o )

Lizzie - April 14, 2010 - 8:25 am

My sister, God Bless Her, made a gown like the 1st one out of my wedding dress. My two boys were Christened in it and they were adorable. I stressed about the 1st one being in a gown until I saw him in it. My sister made the gown before he was born and we did not know the sex. Since then all the boys in our family have been in gowns (4 more). What ever you choose will be perfect!

Update: We ordered the white and blue sweater/pants/shirt ensemble. It should be here on Wednesday (just in time). I’ll take lots and lots of pictures!
