It’s been a big week here in our little household. I realize that it’s probably nothing monumental from an outsider’s perspective. But in the world of Henry, it’s been huge. I’ve also learned that it’s true what they say – kids literally change overnight and that if you blink, you could miss it.
The first incident of which I speak happened several days ago. Up until this point, Henry has pretty much ignored our dog Oscar. I can’t blame him really, Oscar’s always licking his head or his ear in what I can only assume is a vain attempt to get some spilt milk. I’m guessing Henry thinks that if he ignores him, he’ll just go away.
But for some reason, that suddenly changed and Henry seemed to notice Oscar for the first time. And apparently, whatever he saw really amused him.
Just a few days later, we had Henry’s four month check up with the pediatrician.
He took all four of his shots like a man (meaning he only cried a little bit) before being pronounced that he was a strong, healthy boy, weighing in at a whopping 17.10 pounds and measuring 27″ long.
But the biggest surprise of all came just yesterday morning. I had gotten up at 6:30 and went to check on our boy only to see him sleeping peacefully on his side.
Thirty minutes later I stopped back by and was shocked to see him wide awake and looking at me like this:
Considering it was the first time that he had rolled over from his back to his stomach, he was remarkably calm. I, on the other hand, immediately yelled to the CPA, “You have to come see this, quick!” Then two seconds later, “Oh – and bring the camera!”
Because I’m a firm believer that you’ve got to capture a big moment on film since it usually happens really fast and if you blink, you’ll miss it.
