This is end of my third week, count them – three weeks – of my new eating regime (I refuse to call it a diet). After many suggestions and much thought, I decided to try using Spark People as my tool to lose my baby weight.
So far, so good. I’m down about five or six pounds, depending on which way I lean on the scale, and I’m feeling better than I’ve felt in a while. I can already see a difference in my stomach and my face – the two places that I have shown the weight the most – and it has motivated me to keep going.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Spark People and are curious, I would recommend that you check it out. They put together suggested meal plans for you which are easily personalized. I don’t typically do meal plans but what I’ve found is that I like some guidance, some structure. Even though I often swap out some of their suggestions (from the list of choices they give) in the plan, I like it because it reminds me to eat a fat, carb, protein, fruit and vegetable with each meal. It also helps me with my portion size and it counts all the calories, fat grams, etc. for me. Pretty easy.
The best thing about Spark, besides the fact that it’s FREE, is the sense of community that it tries to foster. While I haven’t quite jumped on the band wagon just yet, I’m impressed with their message boards and with the opportunities you have to reach out to others. Just this morning one of the people that I “friended” sent me an email asking how I was doing. That was pretty cool.
Their website and related iPhone app is very well done too, which I’m always a fan of. It’s state of the art and has a ton of resources that I’ve been utilizing. One of them is the Sparks Recipe site. I’ve tried several recipes and so far I’ve not been disappointed. In fact, just the other night I made a mean blueberry/peach cobbler for a dinner party and it was a hit! How many times have I said that before? Um… never.
Anyway… just wanted to update you on my progress. I have a ways to go but I’m feeling optimistic and where I need to be mentally. That’s most of the battle with losing weight right there – having the right attitude.
And as they say, slow and steady goes the race, but the payoff will be worth it.
(ps – I was not paid for this endorsement.)
(pps – but I would gladly except some $$ if they wanted to pay me.)
