Holey Sheets!

We have an emergency on our hands folks.  A sheet emergency.

Don’t believe me?  I give you Exhibit A:

And Exhibit B:

In case you can’t tell, those sheets are actually on our bed because they’re the only ones we have right now.  I have no idea how they got torn.  I can only guess that something happened during the wash cycle and it’s gone downhill from there.  We’ve lived with the holes the past few months but finally reached our breaking point a couple of days ago with the CPA woke up twisted in the sheets with his arms stuck through the holes.

That’s when I realized something would have to be done and done soon.

The problem is that I have no idea where to buy sheets.  We’d like to keep the cost under $200 but we want nice sheets too, preferably 500 count and above. Is that an impossible request?  Apparently it is because I haven’t been able to find anything so far. I’ve found a few possibilities on Amazon but with only one or two stars given by other users, I’m hesitant to give them a try.

I do want to mention that even though we may have holey sheets, they’re warm holey sheets.  On the recommendation of my mother, we recently purchased a mattress warmer to use during these cold winter months.  Can I just say that they are absolutely heavenly?  The idea is to turn them on about a half hour before getting into bed so they can warm up.  It doesn’t act as a heating pad as it doesn’t get that hot but rather it is just warm enough to make the bed nice and cozy.  Which is perfect for us since our room is over the garage and during cold weather months our bed is freezing.

That’s probably why I’ve been able to ignore the state of our sheets – having a warm bed will do that to you.  But I can’t ignore it anymore, they must be replaced.  If they’re not, the CPA might wake up with his head stuck in the hole next time.  How embarrassing would that be?  Okay, it would be a little funny too, but still…

Any suggestions of where to buy good sheets?

I always check overstock.com first when I’m sheet shopping. Of course, you can’t feel them before buying, but returns are easy enough if you’re not satisfied. If that fails, Macy’s.

Overstock.com! If you don’t have your heart set on one ideal set, there are great prices there. I took a quick look and found some 800 thread count with 4.7 stars for $148.99. There are less expensive options in 500 thread count.

We’ve had good luck finding good sheets at Costco.

I vote for Overstock too. Smartbargains is decent for linens too.

We’ve had the same sheets for about 7 years! Wow. I guess we could use some new ones, too.

We always get our sheets at Macy’s. We have the hotel collection, and they are amazing. They are currently on sale – and now I am tempted to buy another set! I love them and highly recommend them. Macy’s usually accepts coupons even on sale items as well.

Here is a link to the sheets we have in a few colors:

That’s crazy! I saw some decent-looking sheets at Sams last time we were there. We’re actually having the same problem, although it’s not that bad yet. But there’s a dangerously thin spot on our fitted sheet, and we really only have one set of sheets we use regularly. I’m kind of bummed about it because we just got them for our wedding 2.5 years ago. It seems like a set of sheets should last longer than that!

Pottery Barn
Crate & Barrel

Good luck! :)

Costco often has high thread-count sheets for low cost… though I just looked at they have more flannel in stock right now. Anyway, that’s where I recommend to go, even though you might have to wait a tad until they have things in-stock.

Homegoods! That’s where I always buy my high thread count sheets and I’ve never spent more than $70 for king size.

If you’re looking for flannel sheets for the winter, Lands End has great high quality stuff for very reasonable prices.

Costco or kohl’s usually has nice ones for decent prices. Kohl’s if you can find them on a sale day they are a steal. I know black Friday is done but the is a great day for stocking up on sheets.

We live in Michigan, and I love LL Bean flannel sheets. They are so warm and they last for a long time. Well worth the money!!

Since I’m usually just looking to buy plain, white sheets, I frequently end up at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Honestly, I’ve had sheets from more expensive places, but they don’t seem to last as long as the sheets I’ve picked up at BBB.

Do you have a Ross (Dress for Less) there? I just bought 500 thread count for King bed for $39.99. They carry name brand (Ralph Lauren, etc). Also, for warm sheets (and cuddly) I like the cashmina microplush sheets that you can find at Domestications.com They currently have a sale on for all sizes less than $45 – make sure to google “domestications coupon code” to find a free shipping or discount coupon. The address for the sheets is http://www.domestications.com/Products/Search+Results/Cashmina+Micro+Plush+Sheet+Set/0/H19095x_2/Ntt/microplush/Ne/1/issearch/1/R/19095A_K_64/Nu/p_RollupKey/Ntx/mode+matchallpartial/Ntk/all_fields

There are also similar microplush sheets at Ross – harder to find, though. But they are better quality – the ones on domestications.com peel a little bit by the feet, but I think they are still wonderful! And worth a try at that price.

Unfortunately, Ross doesn’t sell products on their website – irritating, I know. But you can find your closest store on their website. Essentially they get overstock from all other stores like Dillards, Kohls, Pier One, etc. But they are cheaper than “overstock.com” from what I’ve seen.

I don’t know if you remember me…from the 1-800 CONTACTS days? I’ve enjoyed your blog :-)

This sounds like such a funny occurrence. On a side note, don’t you just love using things that are a bit damaged? I know it’s more fun to replace them, but there’s something to be said about really using something (sheets, a book, a journal), and then knowing you got your money’s worth out of what you paid for. :o )

Ross Dress for Less!! We’ve bought several sets there for much cheaper than normal. And they’ve all lasted longer than the Calvin Klein ones we got for a wedding gift (but let me tell you, if I rolled in money, I’d keep buying those).

I got a set of 600 tc sheets at Sam’s Club and was pleased.

admin - January 11, 2012 - 10:08 am

okay, after reading all of your suggestions (excellent ones, btw) I placed an order yesterday with Overstock.com for one pair of 500 count sheets and one pair of flannel sheets. Fingers crossed they hold up better than their predecessors!

We have some from bed, bath and beyond that are made of bamboo- VERY soft, wearing really well so far and we’ve used them almost constantly for the past year. I can’t find them online right now- but I think they were about $80 for a queen set…
