My heart is full of thanks this year. Not that I’m not normally thankful because I do try to be, but this year I am especially grateful for my life and the things that are a part of it. In the past I feel like I’ve spent years searching for the perfect life and suddenly I realize that I’ve had it all along.

So without further ado, my Thanksgiving List for 2009 includes the following (in no particular order):

- The guys in my life, namely the CPA who is the best husband I could ever ask for and surely don’t deserve.

- Our new little man whom I can hardly wait to meet. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be his mother.

- Oscar, the sweetest dog you will ever see. (Trust me, even if you were not a dog lover, you would love this dog.)

- Parents who raised me with a good foundation and a sense of self. Parents who have always supported me and loved me without fail.

- And speaking of foundations, I am thankful for the knowledge that I have in a God who loves me and a Savior who sacrificed His life for all of us. While it has not always been the “cool” thing to profess to being religious, I can not deny my beliefs and I am thankful for them.

- Part of these beliefs include the idea that families are forever so I am thankful for my brothers and sister who are not only family, but are friends. I love each one of them dearly even if I don’t say it often.

- A house, however tiny and cramped it may be, that we can call home. It is full of warmth and love and hopefully after this four-day weekend, it will actually be clean.

- My job where I have worked for the past three years. It has had its challenges as most jobs do, but it has been a huge blessing in our lives (and it helps pay for that home that I’m so grateful for).

- And last, but definitely not least, my friends. It was amazing to me to attend our baby shower the other night and see how many people showed up in support of this upcoming event. I realized just how many people I am thankful for and what a role they play in our lives. I am also thankful for my internet friends who amaze me with their kindness and sweet words. It means so much to know that they’re (you’re) there, much more than I would have ever thought possible when I started this little journal a year ago.

There you have it… my Thanksgiving List for 2009. So many things to be thankful for, too many to list here. But I am grateful for each of these things and the joy and happiness they bring.

Happy Thanksgiving to each of you – may your holiday be everything you want and more!

What are you thankful for?

I have mixed feelings about Thanksgiving Day. If you’ve regularly read my blog, you know that I’m all for giving thanks and being grateful as I try to regularly express my gratitude for various things in my life. So there’s one part of me that feels that I don’t need one special day to feel grateful – I should feel this way always. But then there’s the other part of me that loves the reminder that Thanksgiving Day brings – the reminder to be thankful for all that we have and to express that thanks where possible. And lets face it, who doesn’t enjoy a day of pure gluttony and feasting? Especially when candied yams are involved.

So, it is in the spirit of Thanksgiving that I write my list of what I am thankful for this year. It is not inclusive, but it is what first comes to mind:

My family – having spent a lot of time with them this year, I can honestly say that I don’t know what I would do without them. I truly enjoy being with them and knowing that we are there for each other no matter what.

My husband - The CPA blesses my life in so many ways, from the notes he leaves in my lunch, to the foot rubs he gives every night (yes, he really does give them every night and no, I won’t share) to the hours of patient listening. I’m thankful for, and to, him for so many reasons.

My job - This year has been hard on everyone I believe, myself included. I’ve had to be part of several terminations at work and my heart goes out to those who have lost their jobs. It makes me even more thankful for mine.

Good Health – This year I have made significant strides in taking care of my body and my health has improved because of it. I feel grateful for the health I have.

My Savior – There have been a lot of changes in my life in recent months but none have been so profound as the growth in my relationship with the Lord. I believe strongly in a higher being and am so thankful for that belief and for the knowledge of my purpose here.

There are numerous other items that I could add to the list, but these are the first that come to mind.

Now I’m going to go and cook some green beans and get ready to visit our friends where we will chow down on turkey (and candied yams) until we can’t eat any more.

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
